A lot of Western Europeans and Americans have some assumptions about Eastern-Central Europe and how dangerous they are and how bad its worst neighbourhoods are. Truth is, it's still Europe, and not any more dangerous than other urban areas in Western Europe, although poorer. Moscow, Budapest, Warsaw etc. are probably much safer than London, Paris or New York city.

I now live in Budapest for 3 years. I am a young woman and I can walk alone at night without any fear. It is in my experience by far the safest capital city in Europe I've been in.

I'm not 100% sure, but the people in the poor neighborhood might have been gypsies.I'm just guessing, because I only heard their accent. Some of them might be in trouble with the law, so that can be one reason why they didn't want to get filmed.
If you want to find poor people who are very kind in the same time, you have better chance to find them in smaller villages in Hungary.
I love your videos, I've watched them all.

its a gypsy hood and good that you didnt go in there because this people dont mess around. i grew up with them eventhough im white and those empty houses you saw they all live in there without doors and windows
there are actually neighbourhoods were you can film this kind of area but find someone who shows you around,
and never approach this areas at night time. with or without camera.
good luck i love your vids.

"Hős utca" means "Hero Street". There are 44 letters in the hungarian alphabet and 14 of them are vowels... not an easy language for foreigners. Budapest is actually a very safe place.

It is amazing to see how different they are in society. and this kind of contrast just happen everywhere in the world. Budapest is still my fav city. 3 yrs later I visited Budapest. I am originally from Los Angeles. From the late 70s as a kid to the mid 80s I experienced a lot of physical violence.

While in Budapest I noticed how relaxed the locals were on public transportation, in shoups, ect. No overert negative reactions to me as a black American. I walked into an open door of a Chinese restaurant at 2pm. They said the were closing but served me anyway.

At the Christmas markets at night, at the local laundromat or wherever I went the people were open. There isn’t outright friendliness like you might find is America's south but the people in Budapest are nice and safe.

The british lady: "You are not scanning this place to see if you can rob something?" You: "No, not at all, I know that is the kind of job the british diplomacy does. I don't want to compete with you guys"

As a swedish citizen I wish I could go there now. I have a week to spend there but unfortunately there are quarantine rules in force. 14 days.

Budapest is one of the safest cities in Europe. I lived there for years, in so called poor neighborhoods, VII, VIII and IX district, kept seeing all the time drug addicts and prostitutes, and never ever anything bad happened to me. In some cities there is a presumption that people who live in the streets are dangerous, in Budapest it is not the case. Poor Hungarians are not dangerous and there is no much violent crime in Budapest. I have heard in the past stories about robbing cars and breaking into the flats for robberies, but I never heard that any of my friends or acquaintances got physically attacked in the street or so. I can imagine that day this "vloger" probably was the most suspicious person on the streets that day, this is why the wife of British ambassador asked him whether he is a robber. LOL. Hungarians don't like nosy foreigners very much, so they would never invite him to their apartment, but they would not attack him out of blue in the middle of the day in the street either.

I can assure you basically in any major US cities you can find much more dangerous neighbourhoods. That neighbourhood wich you have shown as you pointed out is NOT a neighbourhood but a single block in a mostly uninhabited area where drug-addicts are hiding from the police and the rest of the society and the whole place will be taken down soon... The real place that can be considered as the bad neighbourhood of Budapest are district 8 and 7 that you considered as nice a place (around 8:33) and they are not any more dangerous at night time than day time. You have zero chance of getting attacked or mugged in these districts even in the middle of the night, streets are just empty.

With US standards there are no bad neighbourhoods in Budapest,
We have no gangs
We have no major issues with substance abuse like the US.
We do not have crazy hobos shouting at innocent pedestrians or chasing imaginary demons in the middle of the city.
We do not have massive crowds of homeless camping on the sidewalks in the city center. (We have homeless too but not in the way as US west coast cities do).
We do not have to be afraid when the police stops us for speed driving or we drinking outside of a bar or on the street. (In contrast to the US where people think they are free...)
and the list is goes on...

My son visited Budapest he said it was beautiful, and that the people where super friendly, i will try and visit one day when this pesky Covid is under control, but it looks so pretty, he never had any issue with the locals, they told him where not to go, to keep to the main areas, just like most cities, good parts and iffy areas

Just good to know, at 11:45 the sign said on the wall "Ne állj meg mert a táskád kilopják" it means "Dont stop because your bag will be stolen" just already barely visible.
