I place a high value on the R4's Bluetooth connectivity with the Highway Radar app. For me, it's nothing less than priceless. That alone makes the R4 a better value in my eyes assuming you have Android. (I have a bunch of Uniden detectors including the R3 SE).

Biggest thing for me living in VA is detector detector immunity. My R3 has been great for two years now no tickets lol

I got a custom firmware from Mithheru for my R1. So far it's been pretty much perfect.

Just got my first laser hit. Seemed like he was hitting me multiple times right before I hit a school zone. If I was speeding, this would have given me enough time to turn down a street to avoid getting pulled over. I have a VW Golf R that sits pretty low. My radar detector is mounted right above the dash. Also, happy to finally have police check for speeders. A lot of disrespectful people driving 40mph in the school zone!

In 2000, I did a bunch of driving, and I loved the arrows on my Valentine One. If I was going to do a bunch of driving again, I'd probably get a R8 just for the two horns (antennas) and the arrows.

Updated to R3SE - easy install and some instant benefits, the Adv-Hwy mode is really nice and versitile, was worth the upgrade alone. Thanks for tip

Joined the forum recently and just installed the R3 SE firmware. I had to order a new mini USB cable since these things are basically obsolete lol. Otherwise, install took less than 5min, including downloading the files. My fav features are the Auto-HWY to Auto-City mode, and the additional K blocks! Highly recommend.

I have both r3 and r4 the range is solid for both the bsm is slightly better on the r4 it's hard to say it's worth the extra money for the r4 both are better than any escorts I've owned even the red line

Best buy in my area had the R4 on sale for $225
It sold out and I was told it's a discontinued product so they couldn't order me one.

Been checking the pawn shops for some time for a good radar detector and an R3 was up for grabs at $135 so I jumped on the deal time to say goodbye to the old Whistler.

How long does it usually take for the gps to connect? Yesterday it was about 12 minutes before it said "gps connected", almost seems like it is taking longer. I guess as long as it is still picking up radar, which I hope it is doing while not "connected".
