He said that Devi sustained him, hence he didn’t need food or water to survive. As a 16 year old who keeps a fast for navratri, i can confirm that i did not feel immense hunger for those 9 days. Yes, sometimes the temptation crept in, but it soon faltered. I did not feel the need to eat those 9 days, but had to as i have to study as well. Although my friend does fast using only water for those 9 days
