MMA is so tough in the sense that you can't really train like you compete. You can train hard, spar hard with big gloves, etc. But you can't actually replicate a fight in training.. it's too dangerous. You have to kind of learn on the job, which is very challenging to say the least. It's nerve wracking.

Can you make tow more on attacking and counterattacking. I'm talking the conceptual side since most videos are on the mechanical side of techniques (e.g. jab, cross, roundhouse). By conceptual side, I mean things such as feints, fakes, timing, angles, control, manipulation, telegraphing, etc. How can one succeed when attacking or counterattacking?

I was just thinking recently the high guard is effective in MMA because most MMA fighters aren’t good body punchers and will drop their hands to go to the body which leaves you in a good position to counter if you got your hands held high

I think the clinch has been shown to be an effective defense against punches. BJJ stylist are known for this.

Clinching someone up in a self defense situation can be a good way to reduce an attacker's punching power until the attack is broken up or a submission is applied.
