The BEST and WORST things about owning a BENTLEY CONTINENTAL | Flying Spur Owners Experience

The Bentley Continental GT and Flying Spur are truly magnificent cars, and given their remarkably affordable used prices in many cases - highly tempting ones too. But as the saying goes ''There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Bentley.'' With tons of engineering, high specialist labour costs, and frames packed with wiring and technology, they can be a nightmare when they go wrong.

But with full time 4WD, 200 mph potential even in their base forms and the best selling W-configuration engine of all time - which itself directly benefitted from the development programme which birthed the Bugatti Veyron, their appeal is undeniable. And many owners absolutely love theirs with minimal issues even over many years.

So with plenty of merit both for and against buying a W12 Bentley, here are my thoughts as a former Flying Spur owner on some of the best and worst aspects from my time with the car...

Thanks for an excellant video. I was thinking very seriosly about buying a GT, but you have really made me think again. I guess if money was no object then the Cons wouldn't be such an issue, shame because I really like the car.

I’ve driven a Bentley Continental convertible and the wait is pronounced as soon as you’re in the car, yet it comes with a weird sense of confidence. However, I’ve never own one. I definitely agree that it’s the type of car that needs to be taken care of. The onboard system is pretty good but like most cars of that caliber it’s so intricately interwoven. Even so that if finding a problem that caused a short scares a person then this will not be their forte. Awesome review!!

Had no problem with water ingress or flat battery. I use mine everyday.

Had a 2006 GTC for 6 months and had to change all the vacuum lines at a cost of £5K+….. they are plastic with metal clips (another design flaw) which means the line cracks due to heat differentials. Also to change parking sensors you need to remove the bumper! That’ll be £500+ please!! It’s loaded with servo’s and motors and yes the batteries are a known major issue. I’d sum up a GTC as like going out with Naomi Campbell……Looks Great, drives great, but is both costly to keep and you’re never quite sure what you’ll face every day!

I’ve had a 2014 V8s continental for a little more than a year and so far so good. I average around 26 mpg general driving and it’s done 33 on a long trip as it shuts down half the cylinders on a run. You have to be careful where you park because it’s very big. A good independent dealer is a must as well I think. Mine do the servicing using Bentley parts but their labour is half the price. I bought the car from them and they agreed to buy it back based on condition and mileage only, so I won’t be penalised for not having a main dealer stamp. Insurance was 1/2 what I was paying for my Graturismo as well. Decent boot, tons of power and super comfy.

Had a Gtc 2007 for 3 years. Do 12000 a year. It’s been brilliant. Most running gear is Vw or Audi and available at factors. It you want to go in a dealer and get raped that’s your stupid fault. It’s the Same with any luxury car. A decent mechanic can easily fix general wear and tear items. Mine has been super reliable!!! You can get a oil service and full video Inspection at Bentley for £800. Booked stamped job done. . Get local garage to do any issues.
Love it and would recommend it to anyone. If you want fuel economy buy a Corsa !!!

I got a 2007 flying spur. I'm kinda young but wanted a fast family car. I put less than 2k miles a year on. My batteries died. I have the bentley charger. The plug in the trunk just stopped sending the power to battery. My headliner started to sag. The headliner is real leather so it's heavy. My friends supersport had the suspension fault. So it would not air up in the front. My bentley is lowered on h&r lowering module, bmc filters, ecu tune, catback exhaust kit, 22in vossen wheels. It's fast. Sometimes it breaks all the wheels loose if it's in sport mode. I just have bentley dealership do any an all maintenance. The dealership has done it since day one so I just continue with that same place. Freeway race is best. I beat a 2022 bmw x5m competition. He was beside me for a while but I slowly pulled on him.

Having just sold my fourth Bentley, the most recent being a 2016 GTC Mulliner Speed wit adaptive cruise etc. I am pining for it now. The only thing I needed to make this car more perfect would have been a drop-down sunspex holder as I’ve always had on my precious Audi A8. I’m now awaiting my new hybrid GTC.

Like 80-90% of the brand logos are missing from the livery editor. I have no clue why. I figured I would share this with you just incase you wanted to look into it for a video.

Late to the party. I have a pristine low mile XK as my commuter car. I wanted a GT but got the XK because it made financial sense at the time. Thinking about trading it in on a 2012+ you miss your XKR?
