The Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo is The Forgotten USDM Supra Killer

Today on the show we're featuring Josh's 1992 Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo R/T. While it's not a sports car we lust after for it's looks or how nimble it is in the corners, we can appreciate the underpinnings of a Japanese car that was truly ahead of its time in many different ways. Also known as the Mitsubishi 3000GT or the Mitsubishi GTO (in Japan), the Stealth R/T was, in certain ways, America's answer to the unstoppable JDM surge of the 90s. The truth is, here in North America we just weren't ready for it. With a twin turbo V6 under the hood, AWD, active aero (on the GTO and 3000GT top models), and all-wheel steering, it's unfortunate the market just wasn't quite ready for what it had to offer the enthusiasts of that time. Enjoy!

My neighbor has one. He ordered it brand new, it's got every option he could get on it, bright red with 21k on it. It's never seen rain or snow and always in a heated garage. This lasted longer than his marriage he boasts lol. Since new it gets inspected and a full service every year, even if he doesn't drive it that year but he usually takes a drive along the Niagara Parkway to Niagara falls Canada and back again to fort Erie and back inside it goes once or twice a year.

Nobody listen to this advice.. Don't go buy a 3000gt or stealth. I don't need prices going up before I can get my hands on one myself.

The 3000 GT was my favorite car as a kid and that was before I learned how innovative they were for their time

I’ll never forget driving one of these when they first came out back in the early 90’s. My girls dad was a finance manager for the local Dodge dealership and brought one home one weekend. He let us take it out that Saturday for the day. I carved up the Tail of the Dragon or US HWY 129 since I live 20 mins from it and drove the piss out of that car all day and most of the night. I remember it feeling like a Ferrari to me at the time, lol!! It was one of the first truly fast cars I ever drove as a teenager. This video brought back those memories. Thanks!

Fun Memories, In ‘98 I bought a Prelude and immediately made it turbo, one night ignorant me; saw this and honked my horn and that thing Jumped like 3 cars in first gear, 7 cars in second and I watched it in the distance when in third!!! Amazing underrated car!!!

Sweet ride. Got my Blue 92 R/T TT in 97 and still have it to this day. Never seen rain nor snow. Had very few issues with it and the issues I had was caused by bad mechanics. I added a Greddy boost controller and got 24.2 PSI out of the stock turbos. Unfortunately I cannot use its full potential until the fuel system is upgraded. And yes, I barely get out of 3rd gear. LOL

The Non Turbos are a good buy too, especially as TTs become increasingly rarer and more expensive. Ive owned multiple examples of both.. They are quite a bit lighter in weight, and respond well to basic mods, and are very fun to drive and toss around despite being a large fwd car. Plenty of people have converted them to AWD TT too. Including me.

The difference between the 91-93 and 94-96 engine is the 20hp they added. The 91-93 engine has a boost control solenoid with a plug in it limiting the boost to 9lbs giving it 300hp. All they did for the 94-96 engine was remove the plug and the boost went from 9lbs to 12lbs boost. That gives the engine the extra 20hp making it 320hp total. This was planned from the beginning. I have white 1991 currently and it was seen in Regular Car Reviews.

And it wasn't fragile.

I have two stealths. Turbo and an na. Na is great for a daily. The turbo is definitely more fun but requires more care.

I got my 91 pearl white rt turbo as a barn find last year and absolutely fell in love with it. Only drove it 3k miles then put it up for this winter and I already miss it! Can't wait for spring

I think I might’ve bought THAT EXACT car recently, It had multiple owners, manual, and the same color and off colored front bumper, unless the off color bumper is standard

Its so funny to see your video about this one. i remember watching your video about the red 3000GT back in the day. Was just looking up prices for either the gt or the r/t. Both went up in prices the last years. a decent one costs like 20k€ here in Germany. insane. i remember looking those cars up for like 8k when i bought my evo 4. Shouldnt have sold that either ...

the wear on the seats and steering wheel don't say "low kms". And pro tip, when selling a car you need to put on name brand tires. You don't put on the cheapest tires you can find, buyers will think you don't give a sh!t.

According to the owners manual the 92 RT TT will do top speed in 4th gear. I've never tried it in my 92 Stealth, but 3rd gear will do well over 100MPH.

A kid I knew in high school's mother had a Turquoise Dodge Stealth. I personally think the mystic blue color is beautiful.

I haven't seen an Alfa 4C in a long time, I used to see them semi regularly.

Yes, you are spot on...it was a great GT car...and I guess still holds its own today...30 years later!

The Dodge Stealth (in 1991 at its release) was (in my honest opinion) the most bad ass car on the market! The tech: AWD, AWS, Twin Turbo, Twin intercoolers, DOHC 24valve, (twin cam, 4 valve heads), cockpit adjustable suspension, cockpit adjustable EXHAUST (Sport/Tour), ABS, full time limited slip (viscous coupling), and the list goes on and on. The digital climate control A/C was really neat, and it's honestly the most comfortable car I've ever owned and driven.

In 1993, I bought a slightly used 1992 green Twin Turbo. I had it up to 162.5 mph on the Trans Canada Highway just east of Calgary Alberta at 5:30 am. It was cold, windy, and slightly snowing. My girlfriend and a bicycle and our suitcases were in the car. It would have gone quicker on a nice day.
It accelerated hard until I shifted into 3rd gear. The car did not feel cross winds. A heavy car.
The car did not do well on sharp bends as it suffered from understeer. It did have traction and it was hard to spin the wheels.
