I work in shipping and receiving, cutting open boxes, cutting down cardboard, plastic wrap, banding straps, etc. Used to always carry plain edge but decided to give Spyderco's serrations a try, being a huge fan of their knives. I picked up the now discontinued K390 SE Endura and Police LW. The serrated Police is now my go to every day carry, since its serrations do everything I need just as well if not better. Having sharp serrations will allow you to have a polished edge without losing the bite of a toothy edge, since the teeth are already shaped into the blade.

Spyderco's Sharpmaker is also great for serrated knives and makes sharpening them easy as sharpening a plain edge.

Both types of edges have their place, but after using a fully serrated knife for EDC the past month or so, I dont see myself going back.

I love how it ends with a test on a bagel...

Let's be honest, that was probably the most useful test...

This is true, I’ve seen many a surgeon perform intricate surgery using A spyderco paramilitary 2 (S90 version only)

I own a Spyderco Native 5, LC200N with full serrations. I used it for a few house projects and it became my knife of the year for 2023 and 2024 so far. That knife has seen so much hard use and it keeps cutting! I recommend everyone have a fully serrated knife as a secondary, even if it’s a 2in blade, because you’ll be surprised how handy it is daily!

I'm on a serrated vibe now days never used to be but they cut better and seem more reliable and less sharpening

I have both. I recommend a serrated or at least partially serrated if you Kayak or are on a boat a lot,
Not only will you be dealing with ropes and fishing lines. a lot of water plants' stems and roots are tough and slippery a straight blade edge will not be the best,

My brother loves a partially serrated knife. I like the look of the plain edge, although I can see the usefulness of the serrated edge.

Just ordered the para3 s45 blade, but as I was shopping for it I was also checking out their full serrated blades, that'd be a nice edc knife for that role, I chose plain edge because I need plain edge style of life, but I'm ordering a serrated for edc soon! Didn't know blade HQ had a ytube, that's where I ordered my para3 .... small world, thanks blade hq

I had TOPPS build me some knives with a bottom straight edge and a top serrated edge. I was hoping they would make it into one they offered for the general public.

I don't mind FULL serrated edges but not combo edges... I prefer fine edge but that doesn't discount the fact that a good full serrated knife has its place. Out on the boat when dealing with bait rigging, chumming and heavy braid, fluorocarbon or mono fishing like a serrated knife can really be nice. As a self defense knife serrated is absolutely the way to go.

I'm a plain edge kinda gal BUT well done serrations (Spyderco and cold steel) do perform extremely well at certain things and if someone doesn't like sharpening... Just get some full serrated K390 and you will pretty much cut forever without even touch ups .

Once I learned more, I opted for serrated for any serious carry knife.

I prefer carrying a knife with both straight edge from the tip to the middle of the knife, while rest of the way from the middle to hilt is serrated. I find this better to go through stuff like cardboard - you can use the whole blade. The straight edge is good for slicing clean.

I have a leatherman wave with both so that’s my answer !

I like a little bit of serration, depending on the knife. Not a huge fan but it’s got its place. Currently don’t own any serrated knives myself

Depends on the use scenario you intend for the knife. General edc, woods use, or food prep I’d prefer a plain edge. But if I was working in something like crash/fire rescue or SAR I’d like the added bite of serrations to tear through things like bundles of wire without blunting the plain edge.

Love the Spyderco combo edge. Best of both worlds!

Serrations have purposes. But for an edc, especially if you hone your own edges, NOTHING beats a plain edge.
