i want to believe that the letters in crad are intentionally shuffled in the name to emphasise just how much this thing shuffles

And just like that, it can’t go back in the container

You opened Cradora’s Box

I read this as the "Crab Shuffler" and was hoping for something to maximize the randomness of which my crustaceans are chosen. I am sad :(

Fun fact: the “Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas” sign design is in the public domain, not copyrighted, which is why you see it all over the place

(Edit: per comments below, YESCO does hold the rights to the design, but they are very permissive in how people and companies can use it)

2:47 "are these even shuffled"

No, not yet, or rather not very well - the Deck was in order and it's simply put one card from each pile in turn on top of the other. At this point they're still in numerical order and now (almost) alternating suits. About 7 more times splitting a bit more randomly and you'll have a 'fair shuffle'.

That's not Mr. Incredible, that's Mr. Incradible.

A couple notes,
It's clear the crad shuffler here was designed for poker size crads, which are significantly wider than bridge size crads which you tested it with. It probably explains the mess you managed to make without that little box.
If you're wondering, bridge is a game where deal the entire deck out and it's easier to hold 13 cards in hand with thinner crads. Cradistry people hate bridge size though; it just messes with their muscle memory.

The correlation you found with only two shuffles is normal, especially since you were splitting the deck of crads rather unequally. Mathematicians approximate 7 is the correct number of shuffles, but you can reduce this with the introduction of a box cut, bringing the outer crads closer to the middle, the most volatile area of the shuffle!

I misread it as "card shuffler" and thought to myself "hey I'm pretty bad at shuffling I might actually want this"

Well, at least it not being battery operated means that it won't consume batteries that you'll inevitably forget and find them rotting away 5 years later

Given I'm late to this video I'm sure someone else has mentioned it but, the reason the cards are very slightly different is that there's actually two different size standard for cards.

US poker cards are exactly 2.5 × 3.5 inches, which is 63.5 × 88.9mm. European poker cards, as well as a lot of trading card games (Like Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon) are the slightly smaller but round in metric: 63 × 88mm. (Yu-Gi-Oh fwiw uses the entirely different, Japanese, size, which is about, but not exactly, a quarter inch smaller in both directions)

I assume Footy Feud and Uno are printed with a company like Cartamundi and that's why they're the European size. Whereas the Waddingtons deck will presumably have been made to the US spec instead.

As a person from Las Vegas, I can confirm the "crads" used in our casinos are different to playing cards at the local Walmart. They're made of aluminum, asbestos, silica and bits of the now demolished Tropicana to deal with constant use by gamblers and your uncle who put the deed to his house on red.

what did i just write

Edit: okay okay i removed the demonym everyone calm down i just wanted to talk about the funny misspelling of cards

Even the photo on the box is funny. One half of the cards is face up, the other is face down, which means that when you shuffle them like that, some are gonna be face up and some face down in the deck.
