Deontology 03 The Non Identity Problem and Obligations to Future Generations

This video takes a closer look at the non-identity problem and its implications regarding our obligations to future generations. I consider a case in which one considers two policy options.

Option 1: Higher quality of life for the next 30 years but lower quality 100 years out.
Option 2: Lower quality of life for the next 30 years investing in things that will improve the quality of life 100 years out.

The non-identity problem provides reasons to believe that there are no moral objections to choosing the first option. Many people want to reject this conclusion, but the question arises as to how justify that conclusion.
