About simplicity, i think valve will just market all the steam machines as tiers from good to the best.They can also follow the consoles 'how much hdd you want' by just making graphic cards and cpu standard by tiers and just change the hard disk

I agree. It's all about price at this point. They have to get the price right on this one or they won't have much of a chance a picking up gamers who enjoy consoles.

Love your videos, glad you're doing them. For all the reasons you mentioned I don't think the steam machines really can have mass appeal, but do they need the masses? I see this as potentially a strong and sensible response to the reality of declining PC sales, a reality that would eventually hurt Valve badly. I'm looking at the Steam machine as a replacement for my aging gaming PC, provided things like price/functionality/etc line up reasonably. Looking forward to hearing more about it!

I totally agree. I think the steam machine is almost doomed to fail. The masses will be confused by all the skews. PC gamers have a PC like you said and can install Steam OS.

Perhaps, though the reasons are debatable. A lot of people blame Microsoft, others are blaming the shift towards tablets, etc. Like most issues, it's probably a combination of a number of things and I think you're right that that's a factor.

The only reason why PC sales are "declining" is because it's a lot easier to get a cheap PC and down the road upgrade it with better parts.

To be honest. If I was a pc gamer I would just drag a hdmi cable from my computer to my TV and play those maxed out games on my TV without a breeze. I agree Mike, I think this will flopp.

How is it that you're missing the damn point of different hardware specs? Its a limited distribution hardware alpha/beta and they're testing different options with actual users to determine nominal specs for a final product. Its the same thing that goes on with hardware prototyping, only we (consumers) are getting to see the process. Usually this is done behind closed doors with NDA's tight. We're getting to see 3rd or 4th stage architectural prototyping. Derp.

what i am wondering is what your going to get with the base model vs the high end model. will they both be able to play the same games just with a graphical boost for the high end? or will there be some games that are just not going to work period for the base model system due to its limitations.

You're right, people will always want convenience over anything else. Especially the moms and dads, thus further poisoning the console communities with 11 year olds.

I'm just going to install SteamOS on my PC once it's wise to do so.

Steam machine is a gaming PC, just with steam OS replacing windows.
Anyone with a gaming PC that satisfies their needs doesn't need a steam machine.
