A bit of good news: From the satellite images, it looks like the McKinney fire is OUT. The smoke aloft in the Eugene area is totally gone. I know some of this could be due to onshore flow, but this morning you could see the smoke aloft and now it is gone. The GOES-17 3-hour loop shows extensive cloud cover in the area of the fire, but no or very little smoke. Perhaps they got some rain today? Fingers crossed!

August 15th is the date where we typically call summer over here in the Highlands. Oroville can still see a random 100, but typically not the big heatwaves like earlier in the summer. A few years back Oroville had a 101 in mid August, but we only saw 90, barely. Nights really start to cool down after the 15th, and days struggle to reach hot due to the longer nights and lower sun. The temperature difference between the valley and the Highlands begins to increase from 8-10 to 10-14 degrees. If this year is typical, I think it will be the shortest summer I've experienced in the last 15 years here, as April it snowed, May and June it rained. July 2nd it poured here, and then it finally dried up and warmed up.

I was up between 2 and 4 AM this morning watching the cloud-to-cloud lightning here in the foothills well west of the Three Sisters.

Thank you, Michael! Wonderful update, and how about that looking more like we will have ourselves another La Nina winter, will certainly be fascinating to see how it will turn out! Great video, always learning something from you and that is so much appreciated! Got to you late today, had a bit of a busy day! I hope you had/have a great day and I will catch you in the next one!

I really like being able to keep up and watch the extended get closer, see the changes or lack there of. Also understanding what is causing what I’m experiencing. Thank you! 🤞🏼we get some precip for the interior of south van isl.

So are we expecting a stronger enso for autumn and winter? As much as people dislike them wind storms seem to have favorited those conditions.
