I have really learned to appreciate the ICE 1 for the compartments, for me it just feels so much more comfortable to sit in a small room like that, instead of a large compartment.

I love how Germany is keeping their first flagship High Speed trains. Thanks for the trip report!

Those older ICE Trains are clearly more comfortable and spacious than the newest ICE 4 both in 1. and 2. class. They even have at least a few compartements left which was standard in former long distance trains.

18:58 actually in Frankfurt they typically change staff, otherwise they wouldn't make it in 5 minutes if the driver had to fight their way to the other end against hundreds of exiting passengers

The ICE1 is still my favorite ICE. Having traveled it at university times A LOT i have a lot of nice memories to this trainset.

Before changing to ICE 4 in 2020, almost all of the ICE that serves Switzerland are mostly used ICE 1 set. I was able to try ICE 70 in July 2019 from Chur to Hannover on the first class and it's so comfortable

And the live video on Basel SBB is very useful, especially when I need to catch a tram

Flying over the hills and valleys on the large viaducts between Würzburg and Hannover is gorgeous! Thank you for portraying this iconic train on its parade route!

Great video as always and that train station looks majestic 0:38. Watched ICE1 trip report after very long time and sad to see that they are going to discontinue this trainset once ICE 4 is introduced throughout the German train network.

Great video! For me, ICE1 is the best of the ICE family! I like the dining car and also train configuration. I hope they will keep in service in the next year. My last ICE1 journey was without ICE1, because it was replaced at the last minute by the ICE4 train :-/

As a kid i worked in the tech industry in Germany, 1995? Düsseldorf - Amsterdam, my home town.
Loved the service, great upscale level food, can't remember what it was back when this service was fancy. They did this so fast, able to commute there.

I do hope that your first generation ICE 3 review includes traveling between Cologne and Frankfurt, as that is a very impressive piece of infrastructure with dozens of bridges and tunnels as well as very steep grades of 4%. If you manage to get a seat behind the driver you can look out of the front and it becomes a rollercoaster-like experience.

I enjoyed revisiting the ICE-1 trip from Basel to Berlin which was many years ago when I lived in Germany.

Incredible how this level of high speed travel on such a nice train, even if it is not the newest model, is so cheap! From just 29 Euros for such a long trip is a steal! As a UK resident I am a bit jealous. We would pay about three times that much for a journey of similar length on a much slower and less luxurious train.

Great video, thank you, I just came off a 30 day Eurail Pass 1st class, did a lot of ICE trains. I love them, no reservations fee and I could practically sit anywhere in first class. There is nothing like being served a nice cold draft beer enjoying an ICE ride. Love your channel and thank you again

Great video as always! I loved the screen in Basel showing the buses and trams. I've never seen anything like it before. Yet, it seems so obviously helpful to people arriving.

I think if I was travelling for 7+ hours I would pay the extra for 1st class.
Love the interiors of the ICE trains, the wood panelling etc. Also love the currywurst too, especially eating it whilst watching the scenary outside.

I've been on an ICE 1 from Switzerland to Germany (the train was going to Berlin), and the train got delayed, which meant that we nearly missed our transfer. However, I had a good experience.
