This video is mostly spot on. Owned both at the same time ~20 ago. I kept the RX-7 (still have it). The Supra was serious underwhelming stock but modified with a single turbo I felt like it was low key trying to kill me when the boost hit and it shot like a rocket. Also a MUCH better handling car than most people recognize. That being said the RX7 is just such a driver’s car I couldn’t give it up. It was just way more fun.

I don't think either of them realize how special and expensive a stock 25+ year old sports car is. Both of those cars are dam near priceless.

The FD looks better than the JZA80 that's for sure lol. I've always said the FD is the most beautiful of the 90s JDM icons and this is coming from someone who owns a JZA80 🤣🤣

These cars are some of the swan songs of that bubble era, but I enjoy how the S2000 carried the embers of that time through the 2000’s.

This was an amazing episode! Everyone is so enthralled over the modified versions of these that they forget what the real excitement of the stock ones are...

Unless you came of age during this time, you can never truly appreciate how disruptive these cars were. They were gorgeous. Nothing like it at the time.

" lookin at a Legend here"?? huh??..
Did the 2jz Win the 24hs.of Lemans, was it used for SuperGT Racing & has it claimed any Records in international Time Attack competitions as well??.. No. overall the Supra is famous for Drag racing. Not Roadracing as it was intended for .🤨

The Supra is so overvalued it’s insane. I grew up in the 80s and 90s and loved the Supra back in 93, back then they were selling for $35K with very low miles for the Turbo, but I would never pay what they’re going for now. $45, 000 for horrible condition (100, 000+ miles) and if you want low miles it’s up to $100, 000K for a good one? For 30 year old used Toyota? Get the **** out of here. Lmao ppl are stupid for paying that. $100, 000 for the car plus another $100, 000 for mods, Might as well get a Ferrari 488 Pista at that point 😂 Looks better than most modern cars but as an OG 1990s teen and MK4 Supra lover, todays prices? Not worth it.

Out of the box the RX-7 is lightweight and has that legendary Mazda handling making tight technical courses like mountain passes and autocross easy in addition to it's fantastic and sleek bodylines.
The Supra is a front-heavy soft grand tourer that's sluggish to turn and accelerate. What makes the supra good is the potential of it's engine, however, stock it's very unremarkable.
The supra is best on track but if you're going to get a track-focused japanese coupe you'd be better off with a Skyline especially models with the 4-wheel steering.

Really, the only place the Supra is absolute is in a straight line.

the supra was slow and ik people are gonna hate me for saying it but it’s true.... it ran around a 5.8 0-60 while u got the rx-7 and 300zx twin turbo running around 5.3 and they aren’t stupidly overpriced like the supra.

Cars had a better power to weight ratio back than. So it doesn’t matter it has the same hp cause the Camry is twice the weight.

Jalopnik where do you review all the japanese cars?

Every time I hear about the Supra popularity the presenter always overstates the Fast and the Furious and understates or ignores the 90's video games like Need for Speed and Gran Turismo (which honored the tunability of the supra). A ton of us gen-X-ers became fans of these cars via that route!
