Du Pont seemed to have at least a little personality. He even cracked a smile on the mat.

The real Dave seemed a lot more positive, personable and happy than how he was portrayed. Like, he didn't know his life would end in murder but ruffalo has a very visible storm cloud in every scene

Steve Carrel's performance made John du Pont more aged

John Du Pont didn’t exactly have a small nose, but Steve Carrel’s nose, in the movie, was ridiculously large.

The issue with Carell's performance is that John is clearly a unhinged. In the real life footage you can see that he was an oddball but there wasn't anything to indicate that he was capable of what he did. That's what made Dave's death extra tragic, was that it was unexpected. In the movie, it feels like a miracle that he didn't kill anyone until the end

What I think is missing from Carell’s performance is a light of life in John DuPont’s eyes. DuPont smiled more, had an odd gregarious quality. My brother met him and found him odd, trying hard to be normal. Carell plays him as an ice-cold sociopath. I understand it’s an interpretation and meant to reflect his inner turmoil.

But you don’t run a successful wrestling team by being emotionless.

I liked Steve Carell’s performance better before I saw the comparison. Still a great job though.

Steve Carrel's performance made John du Pont unnecessarily creepy.

Foxcatcher was an amazing film but looking at the comparison, Carell as du pont sounds and look like he has a terminal illness and is about 80 years old lying on his death bed especially in the scene where he is being interviewed around 1:50
The real du pont looked more energetic and agile compared

Carrell speaking slowly DuPont speaks normal. Carrells DuPont is low energy.

Carrell is absolutely nothing like him. An entirely separate creation. Even the prosthetics are wrong.

Randomly came across the documentary on Netflix and was so amazed by the story. Had never heard of the Shultz Brothers before and their story definitely deserves to be told! Of the 2, the documentary was definitely better than the movie. I hate though that the guy’s estate went to some random wrestler and not to the Shultz family. They’d definitely been through the most.

Carrel’s performance was brutal lol It seemed more of a “Look at me. I can do more than comedy” performance as opposed to being genuine.

I actually thought Mark RUffolo was the most impressive actor in this film. Carrel was good but he relied mostly on prosthetics to sell his character. Mark was able to transform into another person with very little help from makeup.

John Dupont did not talk nearly as softly as corrals character if you compare them. I don’t think Coral did that great of a job to be honest. He doesn’t quite get the accurate madness.

I can see why Steve lost. Damn, he portrayed what he wanted to, not what he was like….😖😖😖😖

Carrells performance was really good but slightly exaggerated version of DuPont with the voice being nothing the same.
