The only time when it's okay, and even preferable to alter dialogue is when the direct translation from the parent language doesn't properly translate because of differences in the language and either loses all context or doesn't make sense. In those cases, the dialogue should be altered from the original in such a way that it conveys the same thing but in a way that's understandable to the target audience.

What we have going on is, as she says, butchering. Things are being altered with no care whatsoever completely having the context changed so much that all nuance is destroyed result is robotic and uninteresting.

I said this somewhere else and I'll say it again every time I see JP games being censored, people have to act now and stop this bullshit. There are enough westerns that know Japanese to band together and go to JP forums and make posts about these things and warn them, like that one guy made a post in JP warning JP artists about the mobs that attack them for "miscolouring" characters.

NIS and Atlus have been better that Square Enix for a long time but even they have had some censorship issues, however I still love Dragon Quest games.

It's so weird. No matter how many times people tell them to not listen to that side of the consumer base, or even assume that censorship is what people want, they keep doing it. Will they ever open their eyes and see that the majority don't want any kind of unnecessary alterations to their favorite games or promising IP's?

A game's remaster is targeted at a nostalgia crowd who just wants to relive a previous experience with better graphics, changing a bunch of stuff just to appeal to a "modern audience" that doesn't care about the game if such audience even exists only drives away your real customers.

It's because they finally realized they cannot claim the word "Woman" for their own sexual agendas. They realized that their bastardization of the word wouldn't & couldn't fly anymore. They got made a fool of for being unable to define what a Woman is. Thus they want to cancel Woman.

As is the case with most instances of this, I'd like a legitimate argument for how the term woman (or gendered language) offends anyone.
Also, this basically contradicts what square Enix was supposedly trying to avoid.
