1. Install WinDbg from the Microsoft store.

2. Open WinDbg
To analyze Windows crash dump files, you need to run the app as an administrator. To do this, press the Windows key and then type the name of the app. Right-click on WinDbg Preview and select the “Run as administrator” option. Tap the “Yes” button.

3. Debug the files
Tap the file menu and select the “Start Debugging” option.

4. Select Open dump file.
Look for a "Supported file formats" area. It will show you a list of file extensions and dump formats you can debug.

5. Locate the dump file.
The location of the file may vary, though it is usually in C:\Windows\minidump. If you don’t find the file here, you can check it in your advanced system settings. Tap the “Browse” button and select the dump file.

6. Analyze the file
After selecting the file, click open to enable WinDbg to load the file in the analyzer. Then, look for the command line below the body of the dump file and type “analyze –v.” Press Enter on your keyboard. It will run the command and start analyzing and displaying verbose details in the command tab. The process could take a few minutes, depending on the size of the file. When the process is completed, the progress bar will stop moving.

7. Look for Errors
Once the analysis is complete, scroll through the data to look for information that could help you troubleshoot the crash. The Errors are located in the Bugcheck Analysis area. Sometimes, the text may be vague; hence, it may not show the specific cause of the dump, while other times, you can see the specific description of the cause. It varies depending on the type of the dump file and its cause.
