Thanks for posting bro. This was percise and helpful for a quick start. Your voice is calming. You remind me of the guy who used to paint on tv, Bob Ross. Thankful to you and all that post on here. I should give back more but always seemed stressed to get stuff done. Thanks again!

After an hour with Vmware, here was what was going on:
The new appliance was, for some unknown reason, storing it's temp files for the database conversions on the root of the appliance, which ended up being about 1GB more than what could fit on it. We had to add a 20GB drive to the appliance, edit some STAB and mount files, point them to the new drive, and force it to use that as it's temp space. Then it worked.
Fun stuff.

Thanks for your feedback Khalid!
Stay tuned for the upcoming 5.5/6.0 release, likely coming up later this summer, to also be covered at Tinkertry dot com, along with more YouTube videos too, of course.

Hi, love your videos!

I am using the free license of ESXi on a single host.

I am considering adding the vCenter appliance as a VM to enable VM cloning, web client, and easier host upgrade. I am also considering a second host, but that is a different story.

Can I use vCenter on ESXi host using the free license, or will I be limited to the 60 day trial period if I do not purchase ESXi or vCenter?

Thanks for the video Paul - very helpful. I agree about the system requirements. VMware should have scaled the storage and memory according to the environment. 8GB for a few hosts is unecessary. Even Windows Servers can happily operate with much less.

I'm sorry, I have not run into this issue. I suppose creating a while new appliance VM isn't a good option for you. I do hope somebody chimes in with some advice.

I'm getting an error when I do my upgrade, that when I tail the log on the new appliance, I get a bunch of these errors "Cannot mkdir: No space left on device" when it's trying to copy some log files, which makes no sense because those log files are a grand total of 248k. I've posted on Spicework's forums but no answer yet on what issue could be causing this.
Any ideas?
