What Was The Terrifying Jedi Killer Droid That Almost Defeated Obi Wan And Kit Fisto?

One of the most fearsome droids of the clone wars was known as the JK-13. Produced on the planet of Cestus, it was armed with a set of lethal tentacles that could electrocute opponents as well as a powerful force field. However, what made it so lethal was the integration of a force sensitive eel, giving the droid some level of precognitive abilities just like a force user. After a Jedi lost an arm and barely escaped with his life combating one of these droids, Kit Fisto and Obi Wan were sent to investigate and the two Jedi were very nearly defeated. Fortunately, it was found that the eel would quickly die from being encased in the droid, with the threat of mass producing them simply a ruse by count Dooku to force the Republic to spend unnecessary credits on combating a false threat.

I love how Dooku made this ruse and this extremely lethal Droid, and called it JK-13, because when it came to the mass production threat, he was just kidding. The clue was in the name.

"Force Sensitive Eel" is probably the single greatest thing I've ever heard.

Those droids sure would have been pretty useful during the Yuuzhan Vong War

I always liked how Legends would integrate the Force with the animal kingdom, it was a neat bit of worldbuilding

It was the ultimate weapon. It got jedis to date it and when they asked for its age it said "18", jedi says "phew" but then it says its catchphrase "jk, 13" jedi goes to prison. and that is how it gets rid of jedis

That's so petty lmao, "I'ma create a super scary robot and make the Jedi get all scared and waste time fighting it, even though it'll die in like a month lololol"

This was a tactic the USSR used in the cold war.

The US military were worried about the so-called 'missile gap, ' where the USSR was supposedly leaps and bounds ahead of the USA in missile technology and deployment. The USA invested a great deal of time and effort in both trying to crack the Soviet secrets on the matter, and also advancing their own technology to blunt the edge.

It was only later they found out the Soviets had spent that time spending piss all extra on missiles, and had instead invested heavily in air-based deployment of nuclear weapons- which subsequently was named the bomber gap. With 24/7 deployment of strategic nuclear bombers, the Soviet edge was stronger than ever, and missiles became strategically unimportant.

Further, simply bankrupting the Soviets was a large portion of _Usonian_ battle strategy during the cold war, with a major reason for the collapse of detente (a relaxation of military spending) being the realisation that a Soviet Union where spending was freed up for consumer and domestic projects and goods might actually, truly, come to rival the USA on the economic battlefield. The USSR was predicted (albeit, by the USSR, cue Obama giving Obama a medal meme) to overtake the USA as the largest economy in the world by 2000, and that threat was taken seriously enough by the Americans that detente was ended. Same strategy, except instead of "let's conserve our energy and make them waste it, " it was "if we just keep chucking money at the fire, eventually they'll run out first."

It's no force sensitive eel, but it was sneaky tactics like this that really made the difference.

Everyone complains about the new Disney canon, but sometimes the old canon was pretty much just pumping out new OP enemies just for spectacle

If kenobi and fisto died I don’t think satine and Secura would be very happy.

Before anyone corrects me I know this is a legends book.

I did a crap ton of digging for these droids when my starwars table top group decided to go jedi. Only problem was.... I was playing a heavily modified Gen 1 battle Droid. So my Droid went on a vission quest for a force eal, and became a force sensitive reverse-cyborg. (We put the eal in a tank backpack it was metal)

Maybe jek-13 from lego's yoda's chronicles was inspired by Jk-13.
