Stockinette stitch is a lovely stitch, but it has two majors flaws. It's not reversible and it curls in on the edges. How to fix that? Well, easy, simply switch to double stockinette stitch. It basically boils down to knitting each side double.

Cast on an even number of stitches
And then the repeat looks like this: knit one stitch and then slip one stitch purlwise with yarn in front.
Repeat these two stitches across all rows (both on the right and the wrong side)

You can also knit the double stockinette stitch in the round. In this case you have to switch the repeat to* slip one with yarn in back, purl 1* in every second row. The first row stays the same.

Make sure to be aware of the fact that double stockinette stitch is nearly half as wide as the standard stocking stitch and you will thus need to cast on more stitches and it will use so much more yarn.

So instead of getting frustrated (I do like to think I’m smarter than yarn), I thought, what would Norman say?
