How were people saved before Jesus died?

They knew of God's Son coming throughout the whole O.T...besides there's only One way and that's through Jesus Christ only.... they were in faith that God would send the one and only final Sacrifice. ...they knew and believed.

I believe at this time in my study that the coming Jesus was known by all the prophets and told about him to their families and such Job said, , I know my redeemer lives, their belief in a coming Jesus was their salvation

Jesus said, no one comes to my father unless the spirit draws them. You have to be under conviction to get saved. It is the Holy Spirit that gives the new birth. ( you MUST be born again) Scripture says (even the demons believe and tremble..)

Before moses wrote the proto evengellium it was orally preached to descendants of a seed that was to come and save the seed of woman, so they already had the gospel.

I have a random question. What does the bible say about Pastor's who apologize to its members for what's written in the bible? In this case a Pastor was saying that abortion is wrong and made his point and shared verses in the Bible. Later a small number of people cried and complained and threatened to leave the church. At next service he publicly apologized for bringing it up. I don't find that to be right. Think he was afraid to lose those people cause they bring in a lot of money for the church and he cared more about that than preaching truth from the Bible. But who knows. Just wonder if bible talks about stuff like this.

Regarding Enoch-Yes, the Bible meetings that he was 'translated', but I do not believe, he had ascended to heaven until Christ's atonement for a few reasons: Heb 11:13, 39 "These ALL DIED in faith..." "And these ALL...Received NOT the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should NOT be made perfect." And when Jesus spoke in John 3:13 "And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven."

What about those that never heard of the God of Israel before christ? How can they be righteous by faith in a God they never heard of?

If ppl already had eternal life then why did Jesus have to sacrifice himself,

I do think Enoch believed on Christ, even though he had very limited knowledge of the Christ (Messiah).

The first promise of the Messiah (Christ) was in Genesis 3, when the LORD told the serpent that the Eve’s Ultimate Descendant would crush the serpent’s head.

Adam and Eve surely passed that prophecy down throughout their generations and Enoch being the seventh generation from Adam, had to had knowledge of it.

Enoch believed in the Promised Redeemer who would defeat the serpent, as the other OT Saints did.

I think we have evidence through animal sacrifices, which was a shadow of the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ, that these ot characters understood the concept of the coming Messiah. I think they were saved by their faith in the coming Messiah.
