Andy Serkis Unpacks Andor Episode 10's Ending

Andy Serkis returned to the Star Wars franchise as a brand-new character named Kino Loy in Episode 8 of Tony Gilroy's critically acclaimed series Andor. Kino is acting as a foreman at the Imperial factory facility on the isolated and water-locked Narkina 5 when he first meets Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). From the get-go, it's clear that Kino is focused on getting out of his incarceration through legitimate means and fully believes that Empire will honor his sentence. Of course, the Empire has no intention of letting anyone go, and the revelation in Episode 9 cracks everything wide open for Kino. Across his three-episode arc, Serkis delivered an unbelievable and memorable performance that took audiences through the full gamut of emotions as Kino realized he was never getting off Narkina 5 alive.

Ahead of the premiere of Episode 10, Collider's own Steve Weintraub got to chat with Serkis about joining Andor, the emotional impact of his devastating final line, and whether or not Kino may have survived that ending. Earlier, Serkis spoke with us about Kino Loy's backstory, what he thinks the prisoners on Narkina 5 were building, and how the prison affected him.

The way he finally delivered the “can’t swim” line was almost as if he recognised that this was some cruel punchline. It was him recognising the humour in the situation without missing this seriousness

If Andy Serkis and Stellan Skarsgård do not get nominated at the Emmy’s or BAFTA’s then NO ONE deserves to be nominated!

This isn't just good Star Wars, or good Sci-Fi, this is up there with the very best of the genre.

Bravo to all involved.

I was already enjoying the show for the first 7 episodes, but when Andy showed up on screen for the first time, my excitement jumped up to a whole new level. I hope we see Kino again, such a great character. Him, Luthen and Dedra are the new standouts in my opinion, just as iconic as the original heroes and villains.

Not just the best Star wars content in 40 years but one of the greatest sci-fi shows ever made. An absolute masterclass of storytelling. Disney... pay attention.

I was sold by that little, despairing laugh that he gives as he says that he can't swim. Just that "we took on everything they had and won.. and I'm going to die because of this" that felt so completely *real* in a way that very few other things have.

Probably my favourite character on the show so far, I think part of Kino's determination to believe that he will finally be released is that he knows he can never escape cause he can't swim, but once he sees that there's no hope and no one is getting out his morals and strength comes back, he gets so caught up in the escape and morale and the laugh right at the end is one of irony

Mr Serkis, on the trillion-to-one chance you happen to scan these comments: you are a god among men. Tens of millions of fans have watched you go from "Oh that's the guy who played Smeagol?" to "Holy hell this is one of the best actors on earth today." Whatever you did to make this character happen on Andor, I would give you an Emmy Award today if it were in my power to do so.

Aside from being the best Star Wars content since the OT, it stands alone as just a FANTASTIC series!

I really want Kino Loy to live. Him dying like that would be too heartbreaking

When you thought that's gotta be the best scene in episode 10, then comes that "what have you sacrificed" scene to steal the spotlight! WHAT. AN. EPISODE!

I'm so glad this phenomenal actor has more and more chances to show what he's capable of beside motion capture roles.

We didn't see him die on screen so i live in hope that we'll so more Kino Loy, such an incredible character and amazing acting performance. I'm probably going to binge watch all of Andy Serkis's other movies now just because of these three episodes.

Andy did such a great job portraying Kino. His delivery of the speech in this episode gave me goosebumps!

Any amount of time with Andy Serkis is quality. He had amazing insight for a character that began and “ended” in just three episodes. That’s dedication to the craft.

Amazing to think that Andy Serkis saved both Middle Earth and the Star Wars galaxy.
