The actual reason why they weren’t infected was due to them waxing their cloaks and gloves because they thought the bad air can get stuck to clothes but the plague was spread by flees and luckily the wax stopped them from hanging on to them

What's even crazier is that the plague can cause hallucinations through dehydration, so imagine you're already dying, feeling horrible everywhere and then all of a sudden a giant black bird man looking creature with a tall cane bursts into your home while you're tripping absolute sack 😅

I always loved the irony of a Plague Doctor dressing so eerily just as a means of defense, not to be scary or ominous and nowadays it's considered horror. I _love_ their attire and design so much. SCP-049 is hands down my absolute favorite SCP.

Fun fact: the bubonic plague was spread by fleas, and because these doctors were fully covered the fleas couldn’t spread the disease to the doctors, so this actually helped!!!

Fun fact: you know ring a round the Rosie’s? Well the game was based off of the bubonic plague. For example: ring a round the Rosie’s: you would get a ring on your stomach if you were sick. Pockets full of posies: everyone would have posies in their pockets to prevent them from breathing in the smell, this is what the doctors usually had in their masks.
