I can confirm that Salvadorans generally use US Dollars. I was in San Salvador for a week in February of 2023 and hardly anyone used Bitcoin for payment especially people that buy their goods at supermarkets as we know them. Most common people are too busy trying to make a living than spending time or energy on understanding the underlying causes as to why they should care why they should buy their next kilo of rice with bitcoin. I never talked to anyone there that didn't like president Bukele.

I just went to El Salvador 2 weeks ago. I am an Expat from the US in Costa Rica. The roads were mostly great, which is not the case in Costa Rica in fact they suck here. El Salvador is definitely safer for those looking for safety and security. San Salvador is much nicer than San Jose CR. Costa Rica however has much nicer beaches and is much more free. Camera’s all over El Salvador and the departing airport security was like leaving Russia. I’m not a fan of that but I guess with the past issues it makes sense. All in all I respect Bukele, I like his mission and actions and the only thing I can say that needs desperate attention is the very sick stray animals which is my life’s work to fix. I understand Bukele has addressed this issue and I applaud that but much work needs to be done.

I believe that the fact that El Salvador has the dollar and bitcoin as its currency gives El Salvador the possibility of floating when the dollar collapses. When the dollar collapses, I wouldn't be surprised if a good part of the world seeks refuge in whatever they can, including bitcoin.
