Chayote is a perineal plant but in areas with harsh winter, it can be tricky to plant. There are tricks you can do to time your planting when the temperature is perfect.
There are also success stories in overwintering this, thus extending its life to the next years for prolonged harvest.

In this update after 6 months, I will be showing you how the chayote recovered after being planted in April and hit by the frost - they survived!
I will be providing a summary showing how to Grow Chayote ( aka Sayote in the Phils and Chu Chu in Brazil); from delaying it from sprouting to planting, and caring for the seedling.

Hello, Romulo! Very informative vid for growing chayote 👍👍👍👍👍I never planted a chayote in my life. I thought you plant a mature seeds. I going to try to plant the chayote purchased from a Mexican Supermarket here. It fits the description of the fruit you mentioned. THX. Also, some day, I will try to plant a wing beans. I planted a Marongay, (Moringa) in a big pot this season. It's about 10 feet tall now. I don't know how I can protect it from the cold this winter. Thanks for sharing. Health still not too good.

I have my two sprouts in somewhat of a NFT set up. It constantly has water/nutrients in its root zone. Since December 2022 its been submerged beneath clay pebbles and occasionally flooded. Its mid February 2023, and the fruit are only just now starting to rot away. It has sent roots throughout the tray, air pruned by the pebbles gaps. I hope to move it to a passive hydroponics tank, and perhaps plant the second in soil in a pot for control. I trimmed it back twice, yet it's taking over my hallway. It's actually clinging to the paint on the walls. LOL I'm eager for last frost date to get this outside in the sun.
