I've found over years that just jamming with a great general soundset is the thing to do. When I can set the levels of the kit pieces, and I like the kit, it's jam on. The TD-17 kicks it. I'm an owner of lots of top stuff, and I've sold my eighty guitars, my huge drumsets, my twenty basses and my three motorcycles for a moment of simplicity with all things of joy. I know this is personal, but it is something to consider. If I jam my ass off on a tune with the very first preset on the TD-17, I yell with joy.

Great review, I upgraded from the Alesis DM-8 to the Roland TD-17KVX. You hit the nail on the head, I ended up running mine into EZdrummer2 for my youtube covers. Overal I'm very happy with this kit

This video got me wondering, not sure if you would see this, but are you worried about the newer digital roland cymbals for the mid-lower end users? I just feel these USB inputs are going to become more and more common (albeit slowly) and roland will use it to vendor-lock you into their products. Also, a lot of older modules won't have it, so budget users will eventually be constrained and pushed into buying newer products that support them, even if it wasn't their intention. And one last point is the repairability, using the USB input suddenly makes it a lot more proprietary, you can't just buy a cheapo stereo cable when those USB inputs hardwired into the cymbal go bad.

Great flipping video !! 👏👏 16:51 - Midi Usb Superior drummer plugin trigger. 20:10 - The TD-17 a good trigger choice.

Good stuff, thanks man! I'm moving from a 5 piece acoustic kit to edrums for home practice (and because, well, edrums are fun to play too) and just bought this module along with with a VAD kit. Thanks for the review, very well thought out and informative 👍

Hey Man great vid. I have a TD12, using 4 toms and 3 cymbals. Im looking at the TD17 would this be considered a downgrade ? Also when you say use the TD17 as an auxiliary, do you mean that is to expand the number of inputs so that I could add more drums/cymbals to the kit. Sorry for all the questions

One question, the td17 module has an audio interface just like the td07 module does or it doesn't have that function, thanks greetings from Peru 🇵🇪🥁🎧🎶

Good review, it's always nice to have an updated review vs rushed reviews released by bigger outlets.
Have you had much experience using VST's on Windows vs macOS? I see macOS is used quite often for stuff like SD3 and people claim they have better latency vs Windows. Just wondering if this is true and if it's a software/hardware thing, or is this based on something that happened in the past but may not even be an issue today?

Cheers from Texas. Great video. Thank you for the post. I chose to buy this module to get more trigger inputs. I was told (and hopefully this is correct) that I can connect my TD-25 via the "Mix In" port on TD-17 to expand the trigger inputs. We'll see. If not I guess I'll have to buy a mixer I guess.

p.s. - Hopefully you won't hate me when I say I'm a massive Chelsea fan. lol

I think it's a great module overall, but I do have a few complaints. Only the screen can be dimmed, but not the other lights, which are blinding in a darker room (can't read the printed labels.) A bigger complaint is the headphone port -- is it even amplified at all?! A shocking omission from something that costs so much. I guess they figured everybody is going to plug into a mixer, but I don't... maybe IEMs fare better?

I was wondering if it’s a good idea to buy a used td25 kit and then trading the td25 module for a td17 module so that I can have the td25 kit with the td17 module?

Looking to get one of these but given some of the limitations would doubling up with a tm6 (which a I could use with my acoustic kit I suppose) be a better set up? Thoughts?

I don't like the lack of phones volume, but you're going to need a mix from the desk in your inears anyway.

You CAN adjust the volume for the headphones seperatly..Keep looking its on it in settings..

Hi Luke, thanks for the video. Do you know if the serial connectors for the TD11 and TD 17 are the same? Thanks again
Simon.

Hi I really enjoy your videos I have been doing the E-kit thing for quite a few years now so I have a bit on knowledge myself ..I'm stuck on one thing I have a TD30 and I have a TM2 they are connected by midi Out from my TD30 to Midi IN to my TM2 and the sounds are then passed from the MR2 mono output to my mini mixer then into my TD30 it works great and I can assign 4 sounds or samples from my TM2 to any pad I want (I use this quite a bit in my live shows) ..I need a few more triggers 4 is just not enough and I was looking into a TM6 it has some great internal sounds and has a better sample rate than the little TM2 but and it's a Big Butt it only has a Midi Out WTF I carry so much gear already for live gigs ..any idea how I could make this work an external Midi Box ???? I don't know much about them ....I had an SPD SX I loved it but it's just far to big I already have a big TD30 kit with extra Dauz pads ..any help would be great ..keep up the good work and the honest Reviews, much needed in the world of E-drums

Hi, great video with really useful tips - thanks! One problem which my son is encountering when recording with the module is that there is bass drum distortion, spoiling the overall recording quality. We have tested various recording levels without success. Could you please recommend a recording level for the bass drum which you have found works without distortion? Thanks for your help.
