Yes, yes, yes! 👏👏👏
My personal favourites are: reading fiction books, watching series, talking to people, listening to music and singing along and watching comedians 😄. When I am getting started with a language I do enjoy beginner books, even grammar (which is something I otherwise do not enjoy that much)

Participate in the language is my mantra. Understanding emerges. The brain will do everything effortlessly provided you give it a little context and a lot of input.

Excellent advice. You've said similar things before, and it's working for me. When I get tired of doing things "at my level", I watch TV drama series with subtitles. That keeps me interested and making progress every day. Each of us likes different things.

Стив, я знаю, что Вы знаете русский. Вы очень приятный человек. Я начал изучать английский 5 месяцев назад, иногда мне кажется это слишком сложным, но глядя на Вас у меня появляется мотивация. Спасибо вам. Из России с любовью.

I left the Spanish commentary on when watching football games from Spanish speaking countries. That helped me. Cantonese and Mandarin when I was watching a lot of martial arts flicks back in the day as well.

Wisdom from Coach Kaufmann is always welcome. Thanks, Coach!
My favourite application to language learning is listening to opera. (As you say, Steve, each to their own.)
Had my first encounter with real Russian, overhearing a conversation in HomeSense, of all places. Oddly, it happened after I'd been to see Boris Godunov at the movie theatre. Maybe they'd been there too. In any case, absolutely stoked that I could understand them!!

Hi Steve, I'm a big fan of yours from Venezuela, I Speak Spanish (my mother language) English and Italian and I´ve just begun to study French. My question is.. What do you think about having some audio on while sleeping? Do you think that can help your subconscious mind to learn the language to some degree? I mean.. to do it after studying the language during the day of course. What do you think about it?

В одном видео вы сказали, что вы обожаете слушать иностранную речь и читать книги на иностранных языках. Я считаю, что это самый лучший способ.

Hey Steve - have you ever learned a language simply to read it? I'm learning French for work and so a lot of my energy for speaking/listening/writing goes into that language. I am interested in other languages mostly for their literature. While speaking them would be nice, it's not worth the effort for me to get good at speaking them. What I'm asking is, do you think I can learn to read a language well just by reading and some listening? I see the benefit of listening because it smooths out issues with pronouncing words in my head that I'm reading, but do I need to write and speak a language to truly read it well? Thanks

That's true but I'm still struggling with speaking so I'll try to memorize at least 10 sentences each day and use them Instead of spending much time studying alot of sentences and words without being able to use them 🤦

Sorry that you've answered before; I've simply forgotten. Long time subscriber of LingQd here.

Does writing in the second language help at all in acquiring your new language?

Thanks so much

I thinks it's to use Netflix 📺with anki.
For example you like a movies Japanese or Chinese so you should to convert with original language to be efficient with this languages as well as try to convert original and to put on anki .
You will be efficient because you like this movies this series. I think it's the best one to be efficient.
But I would like how can I do ?
So 😊if you are a tutorials to convert a movies with anki 🙏it would be very for the community thanks a lot.
