These effects are still very convincing 30+ years later. The sequences stay in frame for such a short period of time that it's easy to miss. I've seen this movie countless times and I'm surprised I missed it all

If you didn't probably notice this, this means the actors and actresses did a great job at their acting

When my groceries fall out of my bags. I don't need strings. It just happens naturally.

Film making prior to the 21st century is so fascinating. They were like "no one will watch this in HD at home so no one will notice our imperfections and tiny details"

A really cool thing to explain in the DVD is how much green and red they used so that it felt like Christmas even if you weren’t looking at Christmas decorations. Look at the house! Everything is red and green.

I remember when my brother and I watched Home Alone with my dad, he pointed out that the groceries in the bag were empty because full containers wouldn't swing that much and they roll around after they hit the ground a little more than full boxes and bottles would do.

The scarf didnt have a magnet on it...the mechanical cooling fan attached to the engine is pulling air through the grill and through the radiator so that it can remove heat and cool the engine...it works off of the engines rpm and since he gave it throttle to back up which increased rpm of the engine then it was able to "suck" his scarf towards the grill...most cars today have electric cooling fans which cut on and off by a temp sensor so if you want to try this then make sure your fans are on and hold a paper towel or scarf or a light weight fabric In front of your car with it idling and you will notice the effect.

That fire trick actually makes sense, if you're head is being set on fire, you don't just stand there and scream, movie or not

I always liked kevin's scream when the van nearly hit him. It always looked funny and unnatural and now i know why! Thanks so much! Great video

It's interesting that when you watched this in slow motion you caught these details in the order they are listed on IMDB trivia, and with the same notations.
Just interesting. 😘

crazy. how a movie totally entertains a whole family without cgi

Loved the insights. I love noticing these things in my favorite movies. I think Harry with the wedding ring could be a continuity error or could be acceptable because he was robbing that house of it's valuables and possibly decided to try it on.

I would say the scarf was probably not magnetic, but being pulled towards the grille of the van by the engines fan from it being floored in reverse to make the shot. Production probably should’ve turn the fan around so it would “push” air out through the grille instead of “pull”. It also would’ve helped make the shot look more realistic.

Anyways, don’t know how this showed up in my feed but I like stuff like this so I subbed 👍

I think the biggest clue it was reversed is the exhaust cloud being sucked into the van.

Classic holiday movie, and I love the use of classic filmmaking for these special effects. They could have cheaped out and done composite shots, even in that year, but it definitely wouldn't hold up today if they had! The best effects with the longest "whoa, that looks great!" impact are practical effects which only use digital/process/composite effects as a final touch. Home Alone, Jurassic Park, and Terminator 2 (among so many others) still hold up extremely well, visually, because of this.

This movie was a masterpiece. Part 2 was pretty good too. That nail through the foot will always make me cringe!
