My school was near a train station called Mountbatten. Facinating, I always thought it was named after a person.

In Kuala Lumpur we used to have a road called Mountbatten Road which was renamed with a Malay name but we all (oldies) still associate it as Mountbatten Road.

That collection is pure lavish ridiculousness - people with wealth and position who have no taste and no idea how other people live on a limited sum of money (salary). Mountbatten was known for his penchant for young boys and his disastrous naval career. Edwina and he had an open marriage with many affairs on both sides while presenting the face of respectability and privileged upper class position to the masses and that to me is purely disingenuous - dishonest and shallow. Why not sell off the baubles and distribute the proceeds somewhere worthwhile. Ugh. Awful people.

Mountbatten is remembered with horror by former boys of the Kincora Boys Home. Also known for dabbling in a coup attempt in 1979. He was homosexual and she was well known to be totally promiscous.
