This is assault. My neighbors husband did this to a female neighbor because he didn't like her using her grill. He was charged with assault and ended up paying a pretty hefty fine and told to leave the house and the neighbor alone

I go out of my way, nearly no matter what it takes, to keep my neighbors happy. I had one real jerk of a neighbor once, but I just kept being nice to him. One day an ember from a nearby fire caught fire in the tree in my hard while I was at work. This jerk guy came over and using my front garden hose, kept the fire off my house until the FD arrived, and he did such a good job that the FD was able to wrap up handling the danger fast (they were already nearby at a fire, which helped). I got home, he was still there with the FD guys (they were watching to make sure nothing re-caught), he told me what happened, I thanked him, he said "no problem, you are the only neighbor I like anyway". I brought out beers and we drank, from that day forward he went out of his way to be cool with me.

It was worth the patience and restraint. Every bit of it.
