Most fish have teeth, and goldfish are no exception. It's easier to see a carnivorous fish's teeth like a betta or cichlid since the teeth are located on the outside. Like with people, crushing teeth in fish are located in the back of the mouth (or in the throat with goldfish.) Like all carp and herbivorous fish, goldfish also don't have stomachs to digest and/or grind up food which is why they have grinding teeth instead of biting ones. The fact that goldfish don't have stomachs is also why you see waste produced immediately after feeding, rather than a few hours later like with bettas.

I just came across this video. this is super neat. I never new that gold fish had teeth. that's amazing. I thought at QST that you was just joking around an ibwatched a few of your videos to teach ppl about gold fish an talk about yours. @Luke's Goldies If you clean a Common Carp or examine its' head structure as you pick out the delicious jaw muscle meat, you'll find these pharyngeal teeth in the Carp's throat. They look rather like small molars without the textured crown surface. Like most Cyprinids, Goldfish and Common Carp have no teeth inside their mouth.

To have collected so many Goldfish teeth, you must have necropsied a LOT of Goldfish! Also far from being super short, Goldfish, including short bodied fancy varieties, have a medium length digestive tract relative to their size. They don't have a true stomach, unlike catfishes and cichlids, but their digestive system is much longer relative to their size than those of specialist carnivores such as Oscars and pike (the early Red Oscar stock had a drastically shortened digestive tract). Also, the main reasons why Goldfish and Koi are such efficient tank and crowded pond water polluters are that they digest and utilize proteins very inefficiently, and their digestive enzymes are primarily alkaline throughout their gut.

Aquaculture science aimed at rearing Common Carp (and other species such as Rainbow Trout, Sarotherodon, Channel Catfish, etc.) as food animals has focused on greatly improving food digestion and conversion by these fishes.
