Very good advice. It’s possible to ship the system in tact by applying foam packing inside the unit to eliminate any free space for the GPU to move *BUT* removing the GPU and giving it its own containment is the best practice by far.

I've actually seen this happen. I told the Customer to remove the gpu and pack it separately but he didnt.

Not only did the gpu rip out of the slot it also banged against the beefy cpu cooler and ripped that out as well and because of dried thermal paste it ripped the cpu out of its socket and bent all the pins. i was able to save the poor cpu but MB and gpu where dead

I PCS'd overseas and my discord friends told me about this. I didn't fully understood but now after taking their advice, I managed to get everything delivered without any damage.

Damage to the graphics card is unlikely. Nvidia engineers and tests their cards for this kind of problem. lookup "The Journey of Maxwell" at 2:24 on YouTube.

That's why the new and high level motherboards have a metal bracket on the PCI e x16 slot at least on the first x16

If you are relocating it yourself, lay it on its side so that any forces on the slot are vertical is one option.

My prebuilt PC came with everything installed in it. Our delivery guys are not known for keeping things safe and in good shape. Somehow nothing was broken.

My chassis has those plastic supports that help keep graphic card in place, so I don't need to remove it when moving whole PC. Way to go Zalman!
