From Royalty to Reality TV is quite a journey for a family to make over the centuries.

Ngl... having Caterina Sforza as a wife is a HUGE flex for that time. Not to mention the names of Orsini and Della Rovere popping up in their family tree as well is also quite impressive for the Italian Renaissance.

Perfect timing. I was looking for something to listen to while I crochet garlic bread (don't ask) and this popped up.

I lived in Florence for a few months back in 2022, and it was the greatest time of my life. This video brings back very fond memories.

Yes!! I love the Medici history. They are absolutely ruthless and fascinating, with their schemes, rises and falls. The Italian power families are hours of real entertainment better than any fiction.

For a long time I thought the Medicis were completely extinct. I didn't even know that famous bloodline still exists today. What an eye opener!

I love watching these videos that link together different historical dramas for me; where I'm suddenly going OH that's the same person from (The Tudors, The Borgias, DaVincis Demons (yeah I know but I watched it), whatever) and it's like, aligning the timeline in my head as "all these things at the same time".

Always found the Medici’s fascinating. So glad you covered them in this video - you do such a great job explaining family trees.

Thank you so much for covering this interesting family! The first Grand Duke Cosimo and his family became a recent interest after reading Elizabeth Loupas's books, so this was a real treat.

Also when you said poor Catherine got forgotten when Alessandro and Ippolito fled, I'm just imagining the pair looking at each other like 'I thought YOU had her!' Obviously it likely didn't, but it's a fun mental image 😋

The actual head of the family today is Giuliano de' Medici di Ottajano, 14th Prince of Ottajano. He is the grandnephew of Pope Leo XI and inherited his position after his father Giovanni passed away in 2015. The Lorenzo in the video is probably his younger brother. Giuliano is 49, turning 50 this year and Lorenzo is likely 48, as I came across an article about him from late 2019 saying he was 44.
