Skyrim's companions problem!

Skyrim has companions like Serana and Cicero that you'll remember but Skyrim's companions were mostly bland. The problem with the companions was that they lacked depth, and we'd rather Elder Scrolls 6 take an approach like Fallout games where companions have quests, potentially a bonus like a perk and lots of dialogue.

I can ask a random ass farmer about 7 generations of his family but all I get from my companion is “need something?”

I actually remember Gregor… not for anything he did but because one time I removed a two handed axe from him and he took off all of his clothing expect a pair of boots and the hood you get from the abandon shack by killing those people in the dark brotherhood mission… I was deeply uncomfortable.

The 500 gold hires can be pretty interesting. Marcurio has a robust fanbase for a character you just toss some coin at to get him to follow you.

Jenassa is my fav follower, because of her lines, especially when I go into caves or dungeons. Okay, plus she's hot.

My favorite follower in the game is definitely Kharjo. Besides being cute, he was one of the few people who really treated us properly. He was more concerned about my live than his lost medallion. I think he is kindest NPC in the game.

For some reason I really love Erik the Slayer over like every other companion. Like as soon as I get enough money I run to Rorikstead to recruit him. We’re the mercenary bros and we use the all the same gear, like battle twins, perfectly in sync. We run bounties together, we fight in the civil war together, and become vampire hunters together (until I boot him for Serana in the quest line, then immediately recruit him after the story is over). He’s my boy

It was completely absurd that literally NONE of the Thieves Guild can be a companion

In vanilla Skyrim, there was a bug with Serana. If you take a Companion's quest that forced one of them to join your party, whichever follower you had is also forced to leave. But the game can't force quest followers out. For some reason, Serana is always scripted as quest follower no matter in which point of Dawguard you are, even if Harkon is dead and everything is completed. So the member of the Companion joins you, but Serana stays. And, if that wasn't enough, dismissing the Companion still leaves a new space for another follower.

Imagine what a merry band I formed with Serana, Cicero and of course Lucien Lachance as an extra. The edgiest gang of Skyrim

Erandur was a lovely surprise. I normally always killed him for Vearmina’s staff but gave him a chance and he’s very interesting. He has dialogue for most of the major cities and has loads of idle chat. He’s now my favourite vanilla follower.
