The Bhagavad Gita itself is an ancient text of Indian origin and written in Sanskrit. We are using the following three books which are translations and commentaries on the original Gita. They are listed in the order of how often they are referenced in our discussions. Included further below are today’s verses as translated in this first book.

The Gita Dhyanam (the daily invocation):
Om,
O Bhagavad Gita, by which Arjuna was illumined by Lord Krishna himself and which was composed of eighteen chapters within the Mahabharata by the ancient sage Vyasa;
O Divine Mother, Destroyer of rebirth, who showers the nectar of oneness on us; O Bhagavad Gita, my affectionate Mother, on Thee I meditate.
All the Upanishads are the cows, the milker is the cowherd boy, Krishna; Arjuna is the calf; people of purified intellect are the drinkers; the milk is the supreme nectar of the Gita,
My salutations to the Lord who is the source of supreme bliss, whose Grace makes the mute eloquent and the crippled cross mountains.

Verses:

17. Wisdom arises from sattva. Out of rajas, greed arises. And from tamas comes carelessness, errors in thinking and ignorance.

18. Those whose minds are normally sattvic are uplifted. Those in rajas stay where they are. But those in tamas lose ground.
