The site that should open itself up is goodwill. If they allowed people to sell on their site network, they could be quite large. Heck, they have tons of places around the country -- they could handle shipping as well. And since they are a charity I think a lot of people would be happier with their fees going that way.

Mercari works great for me.
I makes sales regularly on the site.

WOW! Great information and free, too! I've bounced around a lot lately whether to start an eBay store or not...and then heard that fees are going up. BUT, the Google Trends show that eBay is still the best, for it! Thank you for keeping me sane!

What Ebay did to really piss me off was that all a sudden they have put my payments on hold, and their reason they give is because I sell items too "infrequently", and they won't give me my money until the delivery is confirmed. This is ridiculous, Ebay are basically holding my payment hostage at this rate!

Thank you so much Don for sharing the info. I greatly appreciate it. Bonanza is a good looking site, great communication. great customer service but sales are hard to come by. I've been selling on the site for about 7 years and I've only sold 19 items. One good thing is that it's free to list unless you want to sign up for their bells and whistles. I've pulled most of my items off and put them back on eBay.

I have never heard of ECrater and Ebid. I will have to check them out. I do use Bonanza because it was easy to download my eBay store onto their platform. I was averaging about a sale a month on Bonanza when I first started using them, but since July I am averaging about 3 sales per month on Bonanza for some reason. It’s not a huge profit to my bottom line, but it helps. Thanks for sharing.

Resellers dont need the garage apps, auction apps anymore. They are good however im saying we already have & use them resellers need a " stores closing " app that works like a garage sale app.

Sold one thing years ago on ecrater. Had no traffic to my store in 2020. Recently closed the store. Besides they had a wacky way of doing shipping. Offering free was better than trying to decipher their shipping matrix.

Hi great but if you want to sell online then its EBAY, ETZY or AMAZON. All those other platforms are really useless unless you want to sell 1 or 2 products per month...I have tried every other platform there is and just ended up wasting hours listing products that never sell. These alternative platforms just dont have the traffic which the serious seller needs. ....

glad I found you. I was searching for an alternative to EBay. I am basically a shopper. I have been a shopper on EBay for about 20 years, so I was disappointed with their "Guarantee policy (or lack thereof), when I purchase a USB stick, it was defective: we sent the evidence of it being defective, and Ebay still refused to refund me. We returned the item, but somehow it got lost in the mail or the USPS tracking went cuckoo. Many times, as you know, when an item is defective, the seller will just issue a refund and tell you to keep the item. Any good alternatives to shopping online? Not Amazon though. Thanks

Hi Don, Have you produced a video about having items sent for grading. If not I would love to know what's worth sending out for grading and which grading house. I'm an avid watcher of your videos great info. Thanks, Barry

For its ability to allow sellers to list and sell nearly anything, Ebay is unparalleled in the online world, particularly when you consider its market penetration which is HUGE and essential to obtaining decent results. That said, Ebay has its limitations. One that I find irksome is that due to the excessive competition from vast numbers of sellers of many common items, any ordinary items listed are usually just being entered in a "race to the bottom" over price. The sellers offering the best prices to the public usually grab the bulk of the sales so unless you can source extremely cheaply, selling on Ebay may actually cost you lost revenue on common, ordinary items.

Thus, using some of these alternative sites with fewer competing listings may let your items be priced higher and therefore sell for more than they would on Ebay. But it may take longer to find a buyer, as the traffic at many of these niche sites is just too low to guarantee there will be enough buyers being interested in your item. It really all depends upon the items you have to sell.

Frankly, I'd always recommend sorting your items which are common, everyday items of a general nature separating them from items that are antique, vintage, rare, unique, hard to find, collectibles, etc. The Black and Decker 7.2 volt drill that I sold recently fits a site like Ebay perfectly. All I needed was good exposure to a wide audience of tool buyers to get a fast sale at a reasonable price. But the 1975 Avon sterling silver necklace with a whistle pendant which I sold recently fit Etsy much better. I was able to get a buyer willing to pay a better price than I likely would have gotten on Ebay and still get a reasonably quick sale.

Using specialty sellers, like auction houses, art dealers, music instrument dealers, etc. for certain items also makes a ton of sense. To be successful, the marketing of an item needs to match its characteristics. And it also makes sense at times to pull a shopworn item off Ebay and relist it on one of these other sites. You never know when doing that will tap into a buyer pool that just isn't spending their time on Ebay.
