However, they were about equal in real life, both having some advantages and disadvantages, with the Spitfires side actually winning the war. People generally forget that both continued to improve throughout the war.

Basically spitfires are zeroes of western front

109s were generally cheaper, as well as being smaller targets

The 109G-6 wins most of the time except in a turn fight, most german pilots knew not to turn fight spitfires. 190s also obliterate the spitfires even more then 109s.

Spitfire inferior weaponry. BF-109 inferior range. The P-51 Mustang solved both.

Finally not a spitfire Fan who says: Yeah, but the spitfire has a better turnrate so its better🤓

well the 109 is the most successful plane in history in terms of air to air kills

Its not the plane its the pilot.

Both planes are the best on my opinion.

The reason the spitfires were so dominate was the pilots. They knew how to keep them low and force the 109s into their dog fight. My grandad flew the p51 mustang and said they were something else

Actually the spitfire had a better kill to loss ratio and aces depends on the pilot. Because the 109 engaged in more battles it has more kills and aces

While the spitfire was the equal in the messerschmidt me 109 there was one clear flaw the spitfire had early when it was being produced, the fact that it would start to and eventually stall out when flying upside down because the fuel line would get flooded due to fuel traveling through the line too fast

This meant that when doing maneuvers thst required the plane to go upside down the engine would lose power and the plane would slow down making it less effective in a dogfight.

But the british came up with an ingenious but only partially effective solution they put a brass ring in the fuel line so that if pilots needed to they could do quick upside down maneuvers without losing power in the engine, it didnt completely stop the stalling but it did allow it to fight on equal grounds with the messerschmidt.

The one who deserves credit for creating this simple fix was Beatrice Shilling.

Assuming the English had the same flying skills and fought just as valiantly as the Germans, all the advantages lie with the defenders of an island, and the Spitfire pilots were nowhere near as successful as the Germans. Then I assume that the Spitfire is probably a little overrated.

Are you sure the spit was produced for longer? Idk the exact years but wasnt the 109 produced from like 1935 or 1936 and the spit in like 1939 and they both ended after the war?

Josef Priller shot down 68 Spitfire, Adolf Galland shot down 53 Spitfire until Nov. 1941. Erich Rudorffer shot down 43 Spitfire. Hans „Assi“ Hahn shot down 53 Spitfire. Walter Oesau shot down 44 Spitfire. The Spitfire were shot down like clay pigeons. There is not one Allied pilot who achieved similar succsess against a german fighter plane.

Can you explain the Battle of Britain and how the more bf 109s were shot down?

The 109 is faster than spitfire and lots of 109s had rockets
