my best culture shock story isn't with a Filipina but a Panamanian. At the University of Nebraska in late October one early evening, we were walking to the local pizzeria for dinner. She kept stopping, looking, take a few more steps, then repeat. I finally asked what she was doing. She said don't you see that? What? the smoke....where is the smoke coming from. It dawned on me, I said you mean this? Then I took a big breath and exhaled. She. FREAKED!!! OUT!!! Are you ok!!! What She had never seen breath condensation before. I had the explain to her how it was cold enough outside to vaporize your breath. I couldn't help but snicker the whole way to the pizzeria because she was taking BIG breaths then letting it out, like blowing soap bubbles. She was so amazed after getting over her original fear. LOL. so cute.

As my Filipina wife said, "We are all over the place." When she moved from The Philippines to rural Virginia 7 years ago, I had a fear she would have culture shock. Well, Filipinas came out of the woodwork to welcome her. Now I am part of a large group of American men married to Filipinas here in the middle of nowhere! We all get together. The ladies talk in Tagalog while us guys sit around watching sports. And, of course, there is enough food to feed the entire town.

After watching this video with cultural differences being pointed out, it actually made me more aware of my own Western culture, that I take for granted.
How Pea could memorize all of those talking points is a testament to her intelligence.
Then there is her trademark ending which put me in stitches.

You are the cutest, insightful engaging lady I’ve seen in a while. I’ve moved to Bataan early this year prior to the pandemic and I’ve had a culture shock that hasn’t stopped yet. Although I know it will take time, your videos have been encouraging. Keep doing what your doing P!

Here is what my wife was shocked in USA 12 years ago. Quiet neighborhood. Paved roads everywhere. Fast travel/comfortable on highways. Heater in winter, A/C in summer. Grass in the gardens, yards. Clean roads. From my paycheck, subtract taxes, savings, car insurance, car maintenance, food, gas, electricity, medical, water, home mortgage or rent, home insurance, property taxes, cell phone, tv cable, and much more not much left to send back to the family or use on vacation. Most people are not rich. She realized we only looked rich when visiting back in the Philippines.

I live in Canada and there is a very large filipino community and I find that most adapted to the culture quite quickly, also most filipinos adapt to the cold weather quite quickly
