Rambutan has a richer and creamier taste that is often described as sweet with a hint of sourness. On the other hand, the white translucent flesh of a lychee is not as sweet and creamy. Instead, it has a crisper bite and a floral taste.

Rambutan originated in the Malaysian−Indonesian region, and has been widely cultivated in southeast Asia areas such as Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines (Tindall et al., 1994).

You should try longan, if you haven’t. It’s very similar to both rambutan and lychee.

Man, rambutan always remind me of my childhood. When it was rambutan season, I always went to my grandfather's orchard to pluck rambutan with my siblings and cousins

People in the Malaysia pronounce it as “lie-chee”
It tastes slightly different
