For most colleges, it is what the student makes of it I found. Look at the former head of Columbia HCA Scott who graduated from SMU. Or Kyle Bass who graduated from TCU in Fort Worth. Your major is a more important determinant of how much you will earn later. Th ebest bang for th ebuck is the good State schools like UT, UV, Michigan, etc.

Happy to know & proud indeed as my grand daughter is now studying in Yale University of Medical Sciences. Having completed 3rd year she wants to join in University of Stanford for Bio ethics program for 1 year& then back to Yale for 4 th year of her medicine! Happy indeed I am!

The University of Washington doesn't belong on this list. While it has its strong departments and schools (e.g., medicine) it is not on a par with other state universities such as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Virginia, the University of Michigan, the University of Wisconsin, to name just a few.

This list is very different from that of Newsweek which provides stats of standard of ranking.

I assume this list was taken from US News' Top Global University list as it is in the same order only omitting the UK universities.

U of Washington belongs because, after all, Rainn Wilson is an alumnus.

The point is there are many different rankings which are so different from each other. What is particularly troubling is you include Columbia University as #6 on the list because I heard that this university had submitted false data (or fake data) to US News to earn the #2 spot on the ranking. More and more colleges in the US today including Harvard and Princeton are abandoning the standardized testing to select students. Instead, they use a method called holistic approach to admit students to the first year. This so-called holistic approach is really a piece of BS because they cannot explain what it exactly is and of course they cannot show any evidence that it is working to select the best qualified students for higher education. The bottom line is I would not trust any of these rankings unless there is some sort of government regulation that could ensure that the ranking is done properly and could punish any people who intentionally use false information to mislead the public. I feel sorry for those parents who had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars of their hard-earned money or life-time savings to send their kids to one of these colleges made up by the phony rankings.
