that first story makes me wonder why there's no law that laeyers can remove themselves from a case without consequence. the amount of lawyers who get stuck representing horrible people and losing their reputation because of it is immense.

I love that one statement. "Money does horrible things to people." No. Money just reveals how horrible they really are.

This has single handily convinced me that lawyers can have souls, they just don't work in family or criminal court.

Story 16: Once someone commits a crime like that, the probabilities of him doing it again are doubled or even tripled.

I think in this case, we can only look up to ace attorney, he care more for morals and knew what was wrong and will always be on that side. But sadly court will not always take the good side of things.

we're supposed to punish the one who did wrong right?

Its like the saying goes; just becuase you did it, does not mean your guilty.

Truthfully a lot of the worst guys very likely get *settled* out of court anyway. And by settled out of court I mean generally friends of the victim beat the shit out of them.

People don't like to admit it but that's just the way things go sometimes.

The cardinal rule is to never get the "legal" system confused for a "justice" system.

If you have lots of money, you are above the law and can do whatever you like.
If you have no money and live out in the street, you have nothing to lose and can do whatever you like.
Court and law exist to keep regular people humble and in their place.

One of my friends' dads was a defense lawyer. Got his client to plea down from attempted murder (he'd fired a gun at a prostitute) to the misdemeanor "unlawful discharge of a firearm." Man went out and killed the prostitute.

Isn't it legal to refuse a case unless you're a public defender?

For the criminal defense attorneys that feel bad for winning.... DON'T! Everyone is entitled to a competent defense. The fact that prosecutors and police didn't prove the case is not the fault of the defense lawyer(s). If we, as a society, start conceding cases where the defendant is guilty, then there is a slippery slope argument to be made. First, it's obviously guilty. Then "most likely" guilty, "probably" guilty, etc. until we wind up with, "well, the police say he did it so he must be guilty." By defending the guilty defendants, you defend all of us.

There was a show called Harry's Law. In one of the episodes, her ex, Richard Kind, defends himself as a defense attorney who would vehemently defend people he knew was guilty. His perspective was that it was his job to make sure the prosecution did their due diligence in all cases. If they do, and the evidence points to a guilty verdict, then his client will be found guilty, no matter how well he defends them. But if they don't, and he lets it slip because his client is guilty anyway, that sets a precedent that the next person, who might be innocent, might get the same sloppy evidence that passed the last time.

I'm into the video about as far as the lawyer talking about the homeless guy claiming PTSD, . Quite likely somebody else he knew on the street he copied off of and that's why his story was so credible might have even been a guy that he knew who died or didn't have enough on the frontal lobe left to try and Sue. Look down on the guy if you like butt you'd be surprised what people will do if they're so bad off that they're on the street and it's a chance to put themselves back on the opposite side of the window. When you're outside looking in in a situation like that you have less than nothing to lose quite literally. Guy gets convicted of attempted fraud he goes to jail and he's off the street. He wins the case and he gets money and he's off the street for a while if he's anyways smart he stays off the street permanently and vanishes.I've known a lot of people over the years in different types of bad stuff and I tend to be a little bit more seeing things through more than one side. There aren't many people that are living Above the Law anymore whether they know it or not. Most well to do people are just better at screwing the legal system then the little guy is what it boils down to

for the furniture for the custody: probably he considered the custody a lost case, so he just went with what he could get from an already lost part, ok, the furniture, esp a pathetic one is stupid, but hey, he considered anything gained a victory.

When I was in school, i thought about studying law for a while, because I consider myself to be a very just and objective person. I ultimately did not went into law after finding out how law works in reality, because I consider myself to be a very just and objective person.
