Transposing Design

Here's a look at how I see design in the world and how it's then transposed into a quilt pattern. This will be part one of a two part series. I hope you fine this process interesting as it's a big part of my design work. Happy Quilting.

When my brain starts figure out colors and layout, I call it Quilting ADD. My brain just starts running 100 mph and doesn’t stop. Sounds like your brain does the same. Glad I’m not alone. And you’re soooo Canadian. When you said ‘boot’ it totally snuck out, lol.

that's interesting on how you come up with your designs! usually I'll start to take a pattern and try to figure out how I can change it. kind of my go-to is, taking 2 different quilt designs and trying to figure out how I can combine them both in the same quilt.

I love that you equate quilt design with music. I see quilt patterns everywhere as well... but I am not an audio learner... so I use the colors and patterns of the fabric to create texture

Wonderful explanation. I also wonder when I look at your quilts if you draw out your designs on graph paper first. I also noted that color is as important as block design, and feel a bit intimidated by your patterns because I am not as talented in fabric selection as you are.
