All the game’s movement and even the weapon stowing basically parallels 1:1 with Metal Gear Solid V

Actually, it's to show the weapon slung to the side. They just didn't model the slings on the weapons. Most of the weapon animations and handling in Helldivers 2 is spot on and well informed by real world analogs.

they basically gave the game mgsv's animations and movement

mgsv gives you a hip primary slot for most "normal" primaries while guns like sniper rifles, rocket launchers, and lmgs take the back slot

considering the movement and camera control are basically 1:1 with mgsv i gather that the helldivers are unknowingly working for the la li lu le lo

What’s really interesting is the fact that the recent bolt-action M2016 Constitution Rifle is inspired by the M1903 Springfield Rifle and yet it also clips to your belt at the hip. It feels like how Marines have sabres and scabbards for ceremony, but for a rifle instead. Feels very proudly military.

Oh my god, being a Fallout survivor AND Helldiver can get you switched up. For a moment I thought the Sickle was a laser rifle 😅.

Fun fact thats also a popular way to stow a slung rifle (not the belt part but tucked under the non dominant arm near the belt line) while performing tasks that require both hands so that said rifle is still readily accessible. I would usually use the mag pouches on the support hand side of my cummerbund to loosely hold my rifle in place so it wouldn't flop around.

I'm convinced it's less clip to belt and more a single point sling over left side to keep free access to the sidearm holstered on a thigh panel. Just the slings and holsters not being rendered for animation/time saving/clipping issues

i think it's intended to be a sling visually but not actually modeled, relying on suspension of disbelief to suit gameplay and ease-of-development
