Why Does Enlightenment Seem Difficult

Enlightenment seems difficult because it is simple. We humans love complexity, but are confounded by obvious simplicity. But enlightenment does not have to be difficult if you are willing to let go of preconceived ideas about what it is and simply remain present for what is actually happening.

Enlightenment is a shift in identity. From personhood to presence. For Ramana it happened spontaneously. For most of us it seems to be a slow process requiring constant remembrance of who we are as awareness

Don, that was really well put and i am so glad to hear it. One of the simplest, most straightforward and honest descriptions i’ve heard on this topic in a long time. So many people seem to be trying to obscure the truth. I can only think that they have their own vested interests in this approach, or to them it is still theoretical. I can see in your face and hear in your voice that you know it and mean it. Thank you. 😊

how do I judge myself about what I am if I don't possess the necessary enlightenment to justify my judgment?

I realized I am far more foolish than I expected 😂 ppl say brain is plastic, and I get so stubborn when it comes to religion.

Both the Buddha and Ramana Maharshi pointed out that almost all human beings have very thick layers upon layer of clouds (Kilesas in the Buddha's terminology and Vasanas in Ramana's) So, while it's true that nothing is to be gained, it is also true that most people are profoundly obscured from seeing their true nature. This video smacks of the Neo-Advaita BS that is so rampant today. Both the Buddha and Ramana acknowledged that it's takes total commitment and usually years or decades of practice to awaken. Don't be fooled - get down to the business of hard practice. Nisargadatta said "we don't serve miracles here" meaning you need to do the work!

We are already there, we cannot be anywhere else.

A very well respected spiritual teacher from India once said that the greatest impediment to spiritual awakening is the belief that one is already spiritually awakened. Books, lectures, teachers and scriptural study are like reading a menu and believing that one has eaten the meal. Likewise, practice as a therapeutic tool to reduce stress and possibly have an insight or two, then write a book about it, and become a YouTube Influencer/Guru is another form of silliness pretending to be wise. Just another form of Ann Landers for the modern age.

Thank you, Guruji! I can see it in your smile that you know the unspeakable easiness of Samadhi. Gentle, simple, easy and true.
