In this video, I'm testing the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X vs the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D with the Nvidia RTX 4070 12GB in different games like Fortnite and Cyberpunk. The Ryzen 5 5600X came out in late 2020, it has 6 cores, 12 threads and has a base clock of 3.7GHz and a turbo frequency of 4.6GHz. The R5 5600X has a TDP of 65W and is made with Zen 3 architectur. The AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D came out in the beginning of 2024, it has 8 cores with 16 threads, the base frequency is 3.0GHz and the turbo frequency is 4.1GHz. The R7 5700X3D has a TDP of 105W and has a transistor size of 7 nm. The Nvidia RTX 4070 12GB came out in 2023, it has 12GB of GDDR6X memory with a memory speed of 21Gbps and a bandwith of 192 bits. It has 5888 cuda cores with a base speed of 1.92GHz and a turbo frequency of 2.49GHz.

These tests do not paint the full picture here, most of the games are either not very CPU heavy or are tested with settings that make them GPU limited. For example, there would be a higher difference if Cyberpunk was actually tested with DLSS upscaling (the DLSS tests just enable DLAA, which doesn't improve performance, just visuals) and especially if they were done with at least *some* RT options enabled, as RT usually raises CPU requirements in games (just look at Phantom Liberty areas with RT). Witcher 3 is a similar situation, everything on Ultra and Dynamic resolution turned on, so the GPU is running at 98-99% all the time, making the CPU performance difference irrelevant.

The difference between the two CPUs obviously isn't staggering, but 5700X3D still offers a nice bump in most games. And that difference will only become more important with newer games, given how many of them are getting CPU limited lately (often due to worse optimization, but don't expect things to get better, it will only get worse). Add to that the fact that, as mentioned, raytracing usually puts more strain on the CPU, so a better performing CPU will help you maintain playable framerates longer as games use raytracing more and more. And finally, there's the DLSS thing - if you're GPU limited and want better framerates, you can bump up DLSS a notch or two and still play comfortably. If you're CPU limited, which, as also mentioned, is becoming more and more common these days, there's nothing you can do - adjusting DLSS won't help you get better framerates because you're not limited by your GPU.

TL;DR: It's not a huge difference between the two CPUs, but the tests don't represent the current situation well and it will only get worse, so take that into consideration.

Wow, excellent demonstration. I play single player titles (death stranding, Horizon zero dawn) at 1080/1440p highest settings possible to achieve at least 60fps avg. 45fps 1%.
I don't use fsr/dlss. I would Not benefit from 3D V-cache. You just potentially saved me a bunch of money. _Thank you!_

Thanks for the video. Seems that you need a high end gpu to go along with an x3d cpu. Us with 4070s and below don't really need one.

Thanks and great video! I'm on a 5600x . I'm hoping the pattern follows overtime...I remember when 2 cores beat 1 core, 4 beat 2 cores, hoping later on maybe 12 cores will beat 8 cores and then upgrade to a 5900x/5950x...granted this will be in quite a few years but figure my current cpu will last me quite some time with a large backlog of games.

so basically the only way to see a huge performance gap is either having a really high end GPU or playing competitive games (which at a point becomes redundant imo to have 500 FPS instead of 400). saving up a lot of money here, thanks for the video :)))

thanks for the tests! you saved me the upgrade, since i now have a 3070ti, i am GPU bound, so upgrading makes no sense.

Отличное видео! Многие любят провести тест с минимальными настройками графики в разрешении 1080p, с намеком, что нужно срочно менять процессор.

I have R5 5600x and Rx 7900XTX with Lg 2k 1440p ips 180 hz screen.. Ram 32gb I rarely get a bottleneck in 2k resolution in most large games

Thanks mate!
This helped me come to conclusion that upgrading from 5600x is pointless

I want to know the QHD frame in Total War game with 5600X and 5700X3D. :)

I changed my 5600x to a 5700x3d and is going well so far, I have a 7900xt and I was not always getting the best performance at 1440p with the 5600x, I don't have bottleneck anymore with the 5700x3d and got a big improvement in gaming

yeah i swapped out my 5600x for the 5700x3d on 1440p ik it was stupid but i wanted and x3d CPU cause its cool

I've had a i5 2500k for 9 years, seems my 4y 5600X will last at least another couple years. I see absolutely no reason to upgrade yet and changing to AM5 is a big spend. Perhaps wait for AM6 in ~2027.
