I could never understand the West' s involvement in Libya. When Gaddafi was what Reagan described as the mad dog of the Middle East he was tolerated. When he came in from the cold, famously shaking hands with Tony Blair we assisted in his downfall. Libya quickly became a terrorist haven and economic basket case.
