Should You Buy BREVILLE BARISTA EXPRESS? 4 Year Review of Amazon’s Best Selling Espresso Machine

I have owned the Breville Barista Express for 4 years now so wanted to give. a fully comprehensive review. I talk the good, bad, the price, alternatives on the market and also make espresso on the machine and steam some milk for a flat white.

Thank you for this! The initial reviews of a product are nice, but we rarely get a follow up video on the product. Really helpful ❤

My first machine was a delonghi dedica with a c3 pro hand grinder and bottomless portafilter. I bought the machine second hand for €50 (I bought the other parts on Amazon spending 200 in total). It was so handy because I could bring it in a backpack to my mates house, etc. it also saved me a hundreds. You can make a way better coffee from home with fresh beans for about 60c per cup

My dad asked me to thank you for this video! He saw this video and got the machine and he's been really happy with the purchase!

i used mine for 10 years and retired it (still have it) for the Breville Barista Pro. They have both paid for themselves several times over. Technically, these are not single boiler machines, but do have a single thermoblock and thermojet respectively for instant water heating. Cheers.

Just upgraded to this machine and I’m happy! It’s way better organized and so much less mess than my previous machine. Super handy having the grinder dose directly into the portafilter, and thus far has been accurate with its measurement. Wish it had a dedicated spot to hold the dosing funnel when not in use, but not a big deal. Just sits on top or on the drip tray. Pucks knock out intact very easily and dry.

Great review. I just hit 4 years for mine and it broke. Replacing solenoid valve today to see if it will fix it. If I won't be able to fix it, will get another Express or possibly Dual Boiler.

To help with the single boiler problem, I have started steaming the milk first and then pulling the shot

I have the Barista Touch Impress, the steam wand is very impressive giving you an auto steam or manual steam option and the built in grinder has the Baratza M2 Conical burrs which are the best and have 30 grind settings! The fact that I can select to steam 3 different milk types is also very nice, Oatmilk, Almond Milk, or Dairy Milk. And lastly the Thermojet heater only takes 3 seconds to get the machine ready for steaming!

Amazing video, I think you should do more coffee machine reviews videos.

I returned mine after a week of ownership. The unit could not reach the appropriate pressure when extracting espresso. I made around 20 coffee extractions, played with the grind settings, tamping pressures, and different coffee beans. Finally found a video on how to check machine for pressure, and it maxed out at 50%. This is not a cheap machine for a lower tier espresso machine. Decided to return it, and spend more on a high end, reputable machine.

I’m sure it’s a fine machine if it works properly.

Could you shed some light on
The water filter you are using before adding water to the machine ?

You don't need to time the shot coming out. If I am having an Italian ristretto espresso, there is no way I am having a 28 second shot. Ristrettos are very short, and very good. 2-3 small sips and you're done.

Had mine 4 years too, it seems only barista heads like us seem to maintain it properly the key is flushing it back when needed and grinder cleaning . I got mine for £373 on Amazon in 2019 never seen it cheaper since!

Loved the video but please espresso shot going bad is a myth.

Great review video. I just bought a Barista Pro and I’m hoping it also stands the test of time.

Perfect machine but get a duo temp pro and a DF54. Much better results.

Thanks for this video. Do you feel that the steam dial is getting hard and stiff to turn especially when the machine is turned on? I am not sure if this is normal operation or an issue.

5 to 10 minutes to warm up in 2024 is actually very slow. Bambino is obviously insane with a 3 second warm up.

For home the warmup needs to be fast, all the pod machines heat up fast and the perspective buyer for this and other more advanced espresso machines is someone who drinks coffee from pods now.
