The simple, phenonmenon-based activity is great. Reasoning is always the hardest part. I did not hear "reasoning" ...how the evidence was connected to any scientific principles, nor scientific vocabulary. I'd expect my 4th or 5th graders to talk about light energy and thermal energy or say that molecules in warm water are moving faster. The faster moving molecules in the warm fluid is what speeds up the chemical reaction making the sticks glow.
