In this episode of The Questionable Garage, Jared faces a tough decision and a thrilling new adventure as he parts ways with one of the most fun cars in the fleet—a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis LS with a 5-speed manual swap. While letting go of the Grand Marquis might be bittersweet, the excitement levels skyrocket with the arrival of its replacement, an insanely cool and rare 1992 Chevy K3500 Big Block truck with a 5-speed manual transmission!

After completing the paperwork and hitting the road in the new truck, Jared’s excitement is short-lived when disaster strikes—he breaks it on the way home. But that's not where the story ends! Jared jumps into action, diagnosing the problem and getting to work on repairs. What follows is a wild ride of troubleshooting and wrench-turning, capped off with the discovery of one of the worst smells a vehicle has ever made.

From the highs of trading up to a rare gem to the lows of unexpected breakdowns (and questionable smells), this episode is packed with the drama and fun that comes with wrenching on quirky, powerful vehicles. Tune in to see if Jared can get the K3500 back on the road and whether this unique truck is worth the trouble.

I never knew the torque converter was part of the exhaust. Oh wait, that must be where the muffler bearing goes!😁

LOVE IT! As an owner of a 1994 C1500 Suburban, I love seeing the GMT400 content! Gimme me more of this!

When you were pulling that apart without a trans jack I was thinking "Damn, remind me not to piss Jared off!". I've bench pressed a lot of transmissions over the years, both standing and laying on my back, but an NV45 isn't on the list. That was definitely a questionable choice.

Seat swap it with a fold down jump seat with built in cup holders. You get cup holders without sacrificing the services of a passenger on a bench seat

Good horse trade, honest little wood truck. It's even got the tape deck with the fancy 5 band equalizer!

29:16 if i may make a suggestion? i know you just want to drive it and use it for what it was intended for... but that 'surface rust' on the frame, can become really bad in humidity... see where i'm goin'? i suggest, that if you like this truck so much, that you go full mental and frame off rust removal... this way... with a clean rust free frame, if you feel like moving it on, it will be BETTER than before.. plus, content, plus sponsors!! [laser rust removal, dry ice blasting, that neat eastwood surface prep hand held drum grinder] you have at LEAST a month's worth of content in that OBS.. Dwayne, Help me out here!!

If I knew you were going to pull that thing with no trans jack, I would have driven mine up there for you to borrow!! Stay safe.

The bumper would make a good ice chest for "water" when you're at events.

24:21 I towed with this for 1500 miles with that smell being radiated into the cab. The most unpleasant trip ever.

For me, the peak was about 2005 or so, with the YLL Duramax Silverado. No modern emissions BS, and runs forever. My 2001 Duramax had 430k or so on it before it threw a driveshaft and cracked the bell housing. I bought a 2003 rustbuket with 230k will propably last the rest of my life.

That tiny 454 could benefit from a dual exhaust and some minor intake tweaks. Better breathing will slightly increase fuel efficiency as long as you are light on that right pedal.

24:49 i know exactly what you mean!
The kind of smell that keeps hanging in the back of your throat for the rest of the day and gives your eyeballs taste buds.

neat "little" find I'm happy to see the big block doesn't have core plugs in the bell housing sometimes just a good simple truck is just so good to have on hand look forward to seeing it cleaned up
