Rwanda scheme is 'very difficult to justify' - Senior Tory MP

Chair of Women and Equalities Committee and senior Tory MP Caroline Nokes has said "migrant children should not be detained" and she has "always been concerned that [it is] very difficult to justify why we should be sending asylum seekers to Rwanda."

When asked if it sounds like the scheme represents value for money, Ms Nokes told Sky News ""No, I don't think it does."

I loathe tories, so to watch an interview where this MP answered every question directly, without rhetoric, and came across as someone who knows what she's talking about was a genuine surprise. Kudos to Caroline Noakes. Now when are the tories gonna start working on the asylum backlog? Train temp staff, pay them a decent wage and get them to reduce the backlog to an operational level.

The Rwanda plan won't make any difference to immigrant numbers - for every immigrant sent to Rwanda, we get a vulnerable Rwandan back. I assume if the asylum claim is upheld, we won't be sending the Rwandan home!

Nokes is a rare tory. She's a neoliberal, sure, but a sensible, reasonable, politician that prefers evidence-based policy making rather than reactionary culture warrior nonsense we see from far-right mouth breathers who scream "WOKE!" at everything they dislike or don't agree with.
