How Americans in 10 states voted on abortion access

This election, voters in 10 states — from deep-red Missouri to traditionally blue New York — were asked to decide on ballot measures relating to abortion access and reproductive rights. Seven of those states voted to protect, preserve or extend abortion rights, while three voted to restrict them, according to The Washington Post’s tally.

Here are the states where abortion was on the ballot and how those measures fared.

I don't know for other states than Florida, but requiring above 60% and not above 50% is wild to me. I don't even understand how this is considered democratic

As an Arizonan, it’s sad and cruelly funny that we voted to protect our own abortion rights but we contributed to restricting the rest of the nation’s

The worst part of the electoral college is that it’s a winner take all. And it doesn’t have to be. Like. 6/8 votes for one state could be red and 2 votes blue. So 2 go to one. Etc.

Instead of having all 8 go to one party. BS.

So pissed off at this.

It’s also super important that we understand. Florida is abortion band did not succeed even with 57% backing.

I’m in MO and on our ballot it doesn’t have any regulations on abortion. It is also an amendment to our constitution.

And for their opinion we go now to healthcare workers and scientists… oh… I’m being told that nobody in this country listens to scientists and we all suffer because of it

I live in Florida. My husband and I work full time jobs and I’m in college. We make more than double minimum wage and can’t afford to live by ourselves and instead have to live with his mother to survive. I have an appointment set up with my doctor in December to get my IUD replaced before anyone can take away contraceptives because I can’t afford a fucking child even when I’m working my tail off. I have many health complications and miscarriages run in my family. It scares me to death that if I get pregnant I will die under this power structure because there is no support for me out there. I actually cannot see how people can’t understand how putting abortion bans in place just kills more people than it could ever save

Edit: this is the most engagement I’ve gotten off of anything and I can’t believe it’s over something as “controversial” as human rights

I'm so glad my daughters will grow up in a state where they have the choice. Other states make me sad. Even my uncle voted for it. He may not really like it but thinks the government should have absolutely no say in it and understands it's not always black and white.

How out of their mind are these people? Since when do we get to choose what women do with their bodies?

There was no measure in NY that explicitly protects the right to an abortion. It was a very vague and broad prop that could likely easily be challenged.

lemme tell you, as a Missouri resident, I was so fucking shocked, but elated, that our abortion bill passed. I was surrounded by vote no to "protect women" for weeks.

How the hell did South Dakota go from electing George McGovern of “Amnesty, Acid and Abortion” fame to this?
